This week is #GSB4 #GSB2026, the highlight of the soil biodiversity calendar!
Sadly I couldn't make it this time (the joys of being a new father), so I guess I'll just contribute some photos instead... starting with this beautiful red-legged mite traversing a moss-covered log.

I think this is my favourite conference post so far!!!
#GSB26 @GSBI was a great success! My take homes are 18O tracing is cool. Soil inoculations are outdated, but adding syncomms or natcomms are hip and happening. @lindolab.bsky.social thanks for organizing!
Don’t forget our Early Career Showcase talks in the Theatre. 15 talks over the next three days showcasing up and coming soil biodiversity scientists #gsb2026 @thegsbi.bsky.social @gsb2026.bsky.social
Hey #GSB2026! Want to hear about soil protists? Want to learn more about long-read sequencing and assembling protist genomes? My talk tomorrow morning in the "Technological, Methodological, and Omics Advances - II" session will highlight some recent advancements in these realms 🦠🧬
Right on time for #GSB2026, soil fauna made it to the cover of Nat Eco Evo (great shot by frankashwood.bsky.social). Attendees who have questions on the journal or papers to pitch, feel free to chat to me at the conference. @thegsbi.bsky.social

Currently at my first @gsb2026.bsky.social conference! Loving this discussion about QUALITY over quantity - we need more [funding for] fundamental science, b/c that’s what populates our databases that *so*much* microbial eco is based off now.

I will be presenting my work today at 10:45 on multiple combined global change drivers on soil biodiversity and functioning #GSB2026 . @thegsbi.bsky.social Come to discuss super cool results 😀

A photography of a velvet worm crawling on a moss-covered trunk. The animal is worm-like, with many soft pairs of legs and a pair of long, segmented antennae. All over the animal's body, there are hundreds of multi-coloured lumps, which resemble dress sequins.
I recently discovered this incredible creature while on a night walk in the NZ bush. Known as a 'Velvet Worms', this adorable predator immobilises prey with organic glue fired from turrets on its head!
Oh... and they are basically unchanged in about 400 million years!
