Lovely day for a drive around town.
Posts by Forge of Ice in Alaska!
War of the Gargantuas is such a treat! Genuinely one of the best of the classic Kaiju films, I think.
Some cool stuff in the pipeline.
Mine just arrived!
Upon a quick skim, it looks great!
… can anyone honestly say they’re surprised that someone is finally burning these places down?
And if someone starts tarring and feathering those supervisors, I can’t imagine anyone being surprised about that, either.
“Magical Spot” by Bunker’s Boys.
I heard It on College radio waaaay back in the day, and I had to physically go up to the studio and dig through the playlist paperwork to find it.
The Thing is real, reeeeeal bad.
I got to Fairbanks in 1989; it’s very possible that a teenaged me saw that sitting on the shelf!
Oh man - now I’m incredibly curious! I’d love to track down a copy myself!
I love this sort of “lost” RPG artifact, and the fact that it’s Alaskana, too? Hot damn!
Although I’m sorry to say that I’ve never heard of Renegades – maybe one of the old Comic Shop guys might know it.
I’d love to know more about it!
That’s fantastic!
For such a small town, we’ve always had a really vibrant games community.
Long winters, plus a decent population of young people (with Eielson, Fort Wainwright and the University) all contribute to that, I think.
Yet one more reason to follow Fenris Games!
Support human art!
Oh lord that’s the most accurate thing I’ve heard all day.
Oh, ABSOLUTELY.
Even if that is drawn by a human (and I’m skeptical), it’s a godawful fit for the book.
I am a little embarrassed at my youthful naivety.
The generic-AI-looking cover is way more offputting to me.
Also I think that “Zagyg” feels like a name that’d fit perfectly into a Fritz Lieber or Lin Carter novel, so I admit that I like it on that level.
As a youth it never occurred to me that it was ego – I only noticed Gygax naming stuff after himself after his ouster from TSR.
I assumed it was a way to ensure that his name stayed on his creations.
As an adult, I can see the ego - but I’m not sure that teen me was completely wrong, either.
The movie is a fascinating artifact of its time.
The Satanic Panic resulted in my father taking ALL my D&D books (which I had mostly bought with my own $$, shoveling snow, raking leaves etc) to the church dumpster.
Weirdly - he left my Call of Cthulhu stuff alone.
Brand name recognition is wild.
Man, we’ve gotta grab a beverage someday and chat about this stuff 😂
Speaking as a person who has published work for both Mork Borg and Shadowdark, I have capital-O Opinions, but they are far too long-winded and meandering for a short form platform like Bluesky.
This better describes my experience as a pre-teen in the 1980’s learning D&D on my own than anything I’ve read in any OSR manifesto.
I also think the influence of “Choose Your Own Adventure”-style books is vastly underestimated. For a lot of kids, it was the only clue we had on how to run D&D!
It’s a whole big set of Lost World walls & towers, ruined & intact, mostly based on my sketches, and Ian at Fenris’s hard work & serious skills.
Probably gonna release the full set later this year, I think. Details TBD.
Bill gets one of the first test castings because the lizards were his idea.
As usual, it takes a bunch of people working together to make cool stuff happen. This gate’s motif is from the Twin Heads of Avarice book that @paintingmoreorcs.bsky.social & I wrote together, an illustration by @leafclaw.bsky.social , with sculpting, casting, & moldmaking by @fenrisgames.com!
It’s the middle of the night, I’ve had a couple of glasses of wine (rare for me), I’m feeling a bit peckish, tomorrow (today?) is Easter dinner… might as well make a strawberry cheesecake.
And it went for $400 again!
The bidder came up to me afterwards and said that their kid had always wanted to learn how to play, so they took the opportunity!
Truly a joy to watch. I loved it.
Of course, there are still a TON of old minis that I *want*. Grenadier Giant’s Club throne. Grenadier Juggernaut. A bunch of old Citadel minis. Some Epicast & Armorcast stuff (although that’s pushing the definition of vintage), & more!
But the actual top-tier bucket list? Only those four left!
With my recent acquisition of the Superior Models Frost Giant deity Thrym, I’m in the weird spot of having nearly completed my whole vintage minis bucket list!
All that’s left are the original Tryanid Dominators, and Tom Loback’s (Dragontooth minis) Saurian Behemoth & Warlord of Saur.
Someone in the comments suggested replacing Lorem Ipsum with this, and, I wholeheartedly agree.
I could also just be spacing it - I’m awake way past my bedtime right now 😂
Oooooh, I don’t think I’ve seen this paintjob, I love it!
