April 19 – 25 is National Volunteer Week. Halifax Regional Fire & Emergency proudly recognizes the tremendous contributions of our volunteer firefighters. They respond in real time, often putting aside other commitments to care for and support their community in times of need.

Tonight we were pleased to host the graduation ceremony for the Fall 2025 Volunteer Firefighter Recruit class. Pictured below are 35 of our 38 newest volunteer firefighters. Congratulations on your achievement and welcome to Canada's oldest fire service.
Be careful when clearing heavy snow. Take your time and avoid overexertion. Take regular breaks and rest if needed.
- Keep decorations away from sprinklers and heat sources.
- Check your smoke alarms to make sure they work. Have one in every bedroom, outside sleeping areas and on each level of your home.
- Have an escape plan. Know two ways to leave every room in case of a fire.

Please remind children not to play or climb on snowbanks along roads and sidewalks. Snowbanks can hide traffic and snow-clearing equipment, and collapse without warning. Crews are working hard to clear streets safely. Help us keep everyone safe by choosing play areas away from roads.
