I watched all of these a couple years ago. The quality arc of the series is pretty much the same as the Christopher Reeve Superman films.

I've finished a one-line/page outline of the story, which comes to 33 pages. I'm likely to expand some of those plot points to more than one page, so 40 is a safer estimate. There are a few world-building/characterization scenes that aren't included in this, but I don't want to get too bogged down.

I'm wrestling a bit with how (much) to distinguish them physically. I don't want Tal to be too much of a "caveman" stereotype.

Members of MAG's and TAL's tribes will be background characters. I think TAL's last remaining immediate family member will be his mother MOT, reflecting to the decline of Neanderthal tribes. We'll see more of MAG's tribe... PAG is his (undoubtedly disappointed) father.

OK, I have some character designs...assuming I decide to stick with my default drawing style. MAG is a Cro-Magnon Homo Sapiens, and TAL is a Homo Neanderthalensis. MAG uses more words, is better at tools, and his clothes (when worn) will be more sophisticated. But TAL is more fun at parties.🙂

So, what about clothing? If I wanted, I could justify doing this as all-nude. Neither species apparently used clothing much at this time, but they did make different kinds, which is interesting. And I think having the guys’ dicks out all the time would distract from the story. For me, at least. 😍

I’m unsure about dialog. Both species were capable of speech, but “language” was a purely tribal thing: they would have no common words. They might talk with their respective people, but I don’t want to present that in English. I’m tempted to try a few basic proto-indo-european words.

One of the interesting wrinkles is that the two species flip racist stereotypes. Neanderthals were less advanced than Sapiens, but they were European, and presumably had similar color to modern Europeans. Sapiens with their superior tool use were coming out of Africa and must have looked like it.

The comic will be sexually explicit, because of course it should be. But it would still be a story if you cut those scenes after the first kiss and returned only during the afterglow.

The characters include the evolution-crossed lovers: Mag (sapiens) and Tal (neanderthal), Mag’s potential wife, her other suitor, and Tal’s mother or father. Finding good artistic character reference is difficult because so much of it is based on sketchy old science, sexism, and racism.

I’m getting an idea of the story as I sketch the characters. It’s a mix of Brokeback Mountain, the Hebrew legend of Ruth and Naomi, a microcosm of the fate of Neanderthal humans as Sapiens acts as an invasive species, and a bit of interracial porn without the typical racist fetishism.

I figure "Homo" covers both meanings. In fact, when I thought of that title is when I decided I *need* to do the story: it was too perfect. I considered "Homo Erectus", but that would be the wrong species. Because of the way my brain works, this has to be anthropologically correct.
