Don’t forget to attend today’s seminar of the Metabolism in Development & Physiology online series!
Preprint alert 🚨 Ever wondered what role fast #mitochondria trafficking plays in the simple cells we mostly use? In @julius-w.bsky.social et al. we use mitodynamics + simulations to identify the importance of outwards transport to distribute new material and keep network balance! Link below!
Anthony A. Hyman will become EMBL’s next Director General.
He joins EMBL from @mpi-cbg.de in Dresden. He is also Professor of Molecular Biology @tudresden.bsky.social, and was a group leader at EMBL Heidelberg from 1993 to 1999.

Just finished last week the @embolableadership.bsky.social course—3 days of practical tips and new perspectives on leading in science. Highly recommend for postdocs or anyone moving into science leadership. Besides the course, the @embo.org poster collection from past meetings is amazing!
Check out the new publication from our lab, led by the amazing @kejiali.bsky.social. Really a breakthrough for the exploration of protein-ligand interactions.
🔜Only one week to go 🎉! Looking forward to hosting the inaugural talks of our “Metabolism in Development & Physiology” seminar series. Join us by registering here: forms.gle/Y8QzucogKKrZ...
We are #hiring for a Tenure Track Assistant Professor position in the Department of Molecular&Cellular Physiology (med.stanford.edu/mcp.html) at @stanfordmedicine.bsky.social. Please apply or forward the opportunity to anybody who might be interested.

I recently read Byung-Chul Han’s The Crisis of Narration, whose reflections on contemporary society also resonate with modern science. The shortage of new, disruptive theories in biology may stem from the dominance of data-driven research—a provocative idea worth considering.
We are thrilled to announce the inaugural Metabolism in Development & Physiology virtual seminar, a new series connecting researchers across all stages & disciplines in metabolism!

See you there!
Hot off the press! Our paper, “Global comparative structural analysis of responses to protein phosphorylation”, is now out in Nature Communications!

Precisely mapping proteases specificity and predicting cleavage rates - with peptide libraries: doi.org/10.1101/2025.... This is a powerful application that is uniquely enabled by the peptidoform confidence and QuantUMS modules in DIA-NN 2.0.
My new lab at the MPI Age is looking for a postdoc in skeletal muscle cell and molecular biology! If you’re a curious and motivated scientist and would like to apply, check the details below:
My PhD student @leonielorenz.bsky.social (with Eva Geissen) has made this nice (free) online course to introduce mathematical modelling for biology:
www.ebi.ac.uk/training/onl...
Including both molecular and epidemiological examples
"If I cannot build it, I do not understand it."
A brilliant piece led by @elias-adriaenssens.bsky.social shedding light on the fundamental rules of transmembrane cargo receptors involved in selective autophagy. A must-read for anyone in the mitochondrial PQC field.
‼️ We're looking for a postdoc to join our team starting January 1st, 2026! ‼️
Are you curious about how exercise promotes positive changes at the molecular level in obesity and diabetes? If so, consider applying or reach out with any questions.

Big congrats to everyone involved - it was a blast! 🎊 If you're interested in #multiomics integration or #kidneyfibrosis, check it out! ⬇️
I love this display of the trade-off offered by short separation times.

@verenaresch.bsky.social did a wonderful job on the cover and animation, she really brought it to life 👩🎨
In a great collaboration with @hummerlab.bsky.social and the Kräusslich lab: HIV capsid doesn't break at the NPC; instead, it cracks open the NPC itself! Details in Cell: authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S... @mpibp.bsky.social @uniheidelberg.bsky.social A thread below:
Such fantastic work! I had the luck to see this at the past mito meeting in Sitges. A great example of multidisciplinary work uncovering how spontaneous physical changes play a central role in nucleoid distribution in mitochondria. Congrats @jclandoni.bsky.social!
Amazing mechanism! Hyperpromiscuous phage kinase to overcome bacterial defenses. Great work from the always successful combo of the Savitski Lab and @typaslab.bsky.social.
#StarterPack for the #Mitochondria research community! Very much a work in progress, comment below/reach out to be added!

This image shows individual mitochondria in different colours.
Each cluster of mitochondria represents a cell, in this case a type of white blood cell known as a macrophage 🧪🔬
