I would like to point out to Bold Tendencies (the summer music and visual arts programme in Peckham) that if it does not contain information on the dates and times of your live events - or a link to such info, that’s already been uploaded - it’s not a “full programme announcement”.

That’s like every time I see the name Calvin Robinson (right-wing political commentator and cosplay priest) and think they’re talking about Calvin Richardson (principal dancer of the Royal Ballet).

And thank you for jogging my memory about the Rigoletto rehearsal. I was trying to tot up how many flyering sessions I have done in the last few weeks and knew there was one I’d forgotten!

I was flyering outside beforehand for Salome and didn’t see a single person I knew, which gave me a clue that it was an audience of “amateurs”. The fact that so many didn’t realise Caro nome hadn’t finished when they started applauding - obliterating some of Feola’s lovely singing - was proof.

The pitiful state of @welshnatopera.bsky.social following budget cuts was foremost in my mind tonight as I watched the Royal Opera’s Rigoletto, starring Daniel Luis de Vicente in the title role (which he sang at WNO 18 months ago) and Rosa Feola (whose first UK role was Elvira in WNO’s Puritani).

I fucking resent the idea that my life, as a disabled person, is considered a "cost", yet this bullshit is an "investment".

Like most information tech, AI will increase productivity in much the same way that a natural disaster increases economic activity. People will be more active sorting out more shit that has gone wrong.

I believe the LSO is announcing next season tomorrow. I’ve had a brief peek, and while it’s *exceptionally* thin on opera, I understand the Half Six Fix series is set to continue.

The other week I was at the Royal Ballet (Giselle, I think) and got chatting to a pair of elderly chaps down from Yorkshire for the weekend for that and the rugby. Sounded like a great combo.

Today, now. I don’t do cricket, but the LSO’s Half Six Fix concerts (where they spend an hour on a single piece, with introductory discussion) are a steal, especially if (as I have) you buy a Wildcard ticket. Tonight it’s Pappano conducting Shostakovich 5. I love listening to him talk about music.

Also, this is why I have absolutely no time for people online who say you can't be queer and Religious/Christian.

Full-length ballets typically have headline casting announced in time for Friends’ booking. Mixed bill casting tends to get announced much later (wasn’t the BP3 mixed bills casting email only a week or two ago?) and then supporting casting sometimes gets added right when the production opens.

Ah yes, I misremembered. Still late enough to mean I should be able to establish my provisional availability before booking!

And, predictably, there are hundreds of ballet cast changes because that’s SO much time for various people to get injured, pregnant, etc…

I’m delighted to see a much more sensible spread of booking dates - June, October (by which time I might know my Regents Opera schedule) and January. Not a repeat of last year when, having already paid for BP4 2024/25 out of 2025 money, the whole of the 2025/26 season had to be paid for by December.

The Royal Opera’s Götterdämmerung is at a handy time of year for us to distribute our flyers to a Wagner audience, however.

Same. The first thing that jumped off the page at me is that two things I already knew about are both at a time of year when I will be too busy to go to everything I want to see (during the run of Regents Opera’s Parsifal, which is vaguely March/April with dates TBC).

I’m a regular MM customer, and have been since the week they opened. The affordable housing reduction is the main thing I take issue with.
