I have a new open-access article out in Global Studies Quarterly, “What’s at Stake in the Indigenous Empire Debate,” in which I argue against historian Pekka Hämäläinen’s claims that the Comanche and the Lakota constituted empires.
Det er en skikkelig bra serie! Og gleder meg også til Omer Bartov. Håper vi sees neste torsdag :)
what meanings their entanglement gain in the shadow of October 7 and the war on Gaza. Because of all of the politics involved, it is not an uncomplicated invitation to extend, and indeed not uncomplicated to accept either. In part because of that, I hope you will all come next Thursday April 30.
is why I am proud of the Norwegian Holocaust Center for inviting my brilliant husband, Nadim Khoury, to give a talk on how the traumas of the Holocaust and the Nakba have shaped Israeli and Palestinian national narratives, how they have functioned as competing cultural traumas, and (2)
Institutions with mandates to research the Holocaust and prevent genocides have clearly been struggling with how to approach the genocide in Gaza. Often, their funding is intimately related to pro-Israeli actors who do not want this kind of focus on Israel. That (1) www.hlsenteret.no/arrangemente...

Very good thread from a fellow JCPOA-er about how to prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon (hint: that deal was more likely to work than anything that’s been tried since the U.S. withdrew from it) —>
RESULT: Democrats have flipped this school board seat in Tulsa.
They ousted the conservative board member I wrote about here, who suggested that immigrant children endanger other kids.
Hegseth purge of Black and women officers larger than previously reported
"Hegseth has taken steps to block or delay promotions for MORE THAN A DOZEN Black and female senior officers across all four branches of the military."

Pretty sure both Jeffries and Schumer feel better about bombing Iran than supporting Mamdani for Mayor, but it’s ok that we disagree.
Schumer and Jeffries making procedural and constitutional- rather than substantive- speeches about the clearly wrong war against Iran is not good enough. Neither was their late & tepid (Jeffries) non-support (Schumer) of Mamdani.
Dem leadership being more hostile to Mamdani than the Iran war is definitely true
And how are the Dems doing you ask
This is so very typical, and part of the larger context and indeed problem. Where/when did you go to law school?
That's incredibly kind. Thank you so much. I am happy to share once stuff is ready to be publically viewed!
Thank you! That is very kind. It is the theory I am working on for my next research project, which will be in English :)
Oh hey, this JD Vance guy had some pretty insightful ideas back in 2016 about why presidential candidate Trump going against GOP elites and promising no new Middle East wars was popular. What ever happened to those two guys. www.nytimes.com/2016/04/04/o...
Patriots, remember that tomorrow is potentially the largest protest in American history! Make sure you're part of history. Find a protest near you. The Semiquincentennial (250 year anniversary) of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 is a *great* year to be uniting behind the "No Kongs" banner.
there's a new report out from YouGov using CES data to plot trends in partisanship over the past two decades. i've got a piece up today in @goodauth.bsky.social summarizing some key findings. check out both!
