👏 “Public schools exist to serve every child… This obligation is the heart of equal opportunity in our country — and private school vouchers were built to bypass it."

More than that, the FBI paid tons of informants who infiltrated the Klan.

For one famous example, Gary Thomas Rowe was a paid FBI informant who was present at the murder of Viola Liuzzo.

But there were so many more. By one estimate, in 1965 a full 15% of the Mississippi KKK were paid informants.

I hope we get to the stage of whether to absolve the guilty in the white supremacist rampage of today. George Wallace toured Black churches and asked forgiveness. They did so. I thought it was too magnanimous. And Alabama could not pull itself out of the racist mire. But the churches were right.

Two proposals that would gain almost unanimous support: ban gerrymandering and private money out of politics.

Men are more emotional than women. Often leads to poor decision making. I was once up to date on this, and I haven’t read the recent psychology on this, but I suspect it’s the same.

Bezos promised to publish only editorials on ‘personal liberties and free markets’ when he stiffed free speech at the Post. How many WaPo editorials have called for the restoration of free markets by curbing the monopolies that have destroyed capitalism in America?

This can work for pain. There are evidence-based studies. But it ought to be done within a full PT therapy program. Helped me avoid a spinal fusion for years.

Abbott and his paid-for cronies are using Texas resources to lure water wasting data centers to this water-starved state. We are paying to attract destructive industry. Why are they not paying?

DOGGETT: Doesn't your budget propose another 12% cut for NIH?

VOUGHT: Most of what you said is untrue. NIH was not cut at all--

D: My Q is don't you propose another 12% cut?

VOUGHT: We propose a cut

D: Is it your feeling that we just can't afford to invest more in doing something about cancer?

Republicans claim that the Save America Act is designed to exclude all non citizens from voting. Just as important is whether it will INCLUDE all citizens in the ability to vote. It is designed deliberately not to do so.

For sure. PitQuite a few conservatives in Texas are calling out Gov Abbott’s clear and present corruption and the massive amount of dark money flowing in and out. It’s a unifying issue.

Rand Paul: "Really, the debate now should be, is a 47 year old conflict an imminent threat? Were there changes in their nuclear program that made this an imminent threat? And I don't think the evidence is there that this was an imminent threat that would allow the president to go to war on his own."

Can our systems be adapted to AI challenges? Or rather human manipulation of such systems of information? Would current models suffice to capture added “information”? Probably, but policy process studies are in their infancies.

Unfortunately many policies are a result of solutions searching problems. We already have full knowledge of such weaknesses in the problem solving system, and have institutional systems to address it: regulatory adjustments, legislative oversight, etc.

I guess the problem is that there's considerable variation in how liberal or contested regimes are. Plotting V-Dem's Polyarchy score against binary measures (BMR/DD) shows massive overlap. Same 0/1 labels "hide" vastly different democratic quality.
