Environmental lawyer Vanessa Bleyer will be the Greens Senator for Tasmania, after winning a preselection vote by party members. She will replace Peter Whish-Wilson who is retiring. Bleyer was the Greens lead candidate for Braddon in last year's state election
There are eight candidates for the Nepean by-election, and One Nation draws top spot on the ballot. More details here: www.abc.net.au/news/electio...
Queensland MP Jimmy Sullivan has been found dead in Brisbane. He was a former Labor MP but was expelled from the caucus last year and had been sitting as an independent.

The recount in Narungga has concluded, with One Nation winning the seat by a margin of 58 votes after a recount
That means final numbers in the House of Assembly are:
- Labor 34
- Liberals 5
- One Nation 4
- Independents 4
The recount in Narungga has been going since 9am but is yet to be completed, I’m told the final final distribution of preferences will take place tomorrow
We've built a fuel tracker to watch the impact of the excise cut on prices -- and prices have come down much faster than the industry suggested they would www.abc.net.au/news/2026-04...
In Narungga, I understand One Nation's Chantelle Thomas is the apparent winner after the distribution of preferences (as expected). A request for a recount has been made, and the electoral commissioner has agreed to it and directed it be done tomorrow.
The final distribution of preferences in Finniss confirms that Lou Nicholson has won the seat from fourth position on primaries
I understand there are either zero or very few votes left to be added to the Narungga count (not enough to see the Liberals overtake One Nation). We're trying to confirm if a recount is being considered given the margin.
Narungga is the only seat left in doubt in South Australia, and One Nation leads by 25 votes, so we may be waiting for the full distribution of preferences to be finalised over the coming days.
One Nation has picked up MacKillop in SA’s south-east. The reporting of the count has stalled without any postals, absents, or declarations published by the commission, but the Liberals have conceded based on the counting that scrutineers have seen
The only doubt left in Morphett was over how many votes were remaining in the count. A small number were added today, and it seems clear Labor will win, giving it 34 seats in total, and leaving the Liberals with just one metro Adelaide seat.
The margin in Narungga has narrowed to 43 votes. We may be waiting until the final distribution of preferences to know the winner here.
The vast majority of votes left to be counted in Heysen are postals, and these are favouring Liberal Josh Teague who leads the count. He will retain his seat, giving the Liberals five seats. One Nation will win at most four, meaning the Liberals retain Opposition status in SA
Preferences are breaking in favour of One Nation in Hammond as expected, and so Robert Roylance will maintain his lead and be elected. That's One Nation's second seat in parliament, and the party is still ahead in two others.
Another booth has reported in Hammond with stronger preference flows to One Nation. If more of them look like that then One Nation will win (and this remains our current expectation)
First 2cp count is in for Hammond, and One Nation gets 50.3% of preferences which would suggest a close result, although this booth is the Polling Day Declaration Votes so may not be representative of the seat
MORPHETT is tipping back and forth, with Labor currently 34 votes ahead of sitting MP Stephen Patterson.
In MACKILLOP, One Nation is projecting to finish narrowly ahead of the Liberals based on the preference flows observed so far, but it remains too early to call
HEYSEN is a tight count between the Liberals and Labor, but there is a chance the Greens could sneak ahead of Labor into 2nd place. If that happens it would probably make it easier for Josh Teague to retain. For now the ABC is continuing to publish the Labor-Liberal count
After looking at how preferences flow from 3rd and 4th placed candidates in HAMMOND, the commission will today count prefs between Labor versus One Nation. We expect One Nation to win that but are yet to get any preference counts to confirm it.
NARUNGGA remains in doubt. On the preference count, One Nation is currently less than 200 votes ahead. The Liberals have got just over 68% of preferences so far, just a little bit short of what they need to win. Waiting for declarations, absents, and any remaining postals
Independent Matt Schultz has won Kavel. The commission has now examined pref flows of lower candidates and determined another candidate will not leapfrog Schultz and push him out of the two-candidate preferred count. Schultz wins based on the election night pref count.
The electoral commission has done an indicative preference throw in the early voting centre in Finniss to identify if Lou Nicholson will be overtaken by Labor. She gains on Labor in that booth, and so will go on to make the final two and win against Liberal David Basham.
A preference count has reported for a single polling place in Narungga, and it’s a good set of figures for One Nation.
Preference flows in Light are benefiting Labor, and they are similar to the flows in nearby seats.
Labor's James Agness will be elected, seeing off a scare from One Nation in the Gawler-based seat
Further counting in Stuart has confirmed Geoff Brock will be re-elected
One Nation has won its first lower house seat in an election outside of Queensland. The Liberal Party recommended prefs to One Nation over Labor in Ngadjuri and has fallen to third place, so David Paton will maintain his lead and is set to enter South Australia’s parliament.
Further counting in Ngadjuri has seen Labor’s Tony Piccolo gain on Liberal MP Penny Pratt, meaning Pratt will likely be knocked out. One Nation’s David Paton is therefore the favourite to win on Liberal preferences
