“The subpoena targeting Amandla did not fit any of Google’s exceptions. Google screwed up, and it needs to own its mistakes,” EFF’s @mariotrujillo.bsky.social told @androidauthority.com. www.androidauthority.com/eff-pushes-...
After almost twenty years on the platform, EFF is logging off of X.
This isn’t a decision we made lightly, but it might be overdue. 🧵 (1/5)

I had no idea this was a thing, but am so happy that it is! Hat's off to Cal Fire for this feline rescue effort! youtube.com/shorts/YvHvQ...
A great way to remove dependence on foreign energy and the war and suffering that goes with it is to invest in renewables and storage. We should have been doing this for decades. Elect leaders who support clean energy and economic security for all, not fossil fuel interests.
Ok, officially, Sky Follower Bridge is pretty cool if you want to find your orphaned follows from other places...

this is what it feels like to post on bluesky
A Democrat has won the mayor's seat in Boca Raton... by one vote:
The number of emails I get that take me to the app which can't do the thing the link was directing me to do is insane.
I can't believe I have to say this in this, the year of our eternal damnation Two Thousand and Twenty-Six, but:
Unless you have built a FULL-FUNCTIONED mobile app, *do not* have the app take over all links from your domain.
It's shitty UI/UX, and just fucking stupid.
IANAL, but if a user hasn't been presented ToS (for example, by signing up to an account), then they aren't bound by them. Bluesky can always block a PDS, but the data remains there and if things were ever to go badly another entity could spin up their own appview/relay/etc, which is the point.
That’s a whole other kettle of fish. :)
... email, dns, security, etc - I expect it will continue to get easier. It *is* easier if you want to use your existing did:plc bluesky account. Harder if you want to go the did:web route I did for Cory. Harder still if you want to deploy it in a "secure enough for an internet celebrity" way.
Setting up your own server is now quite easy, there are instructions at the github project (github.com/bluesky-soci...) and even some web tools to assist with the did:web work (atproto-did-web.lukeacl.com) - but it's still quite "admin-heavy" in that you still have to figure out the fiddly bits
My day just got so much better seeing
A. Cory Doctorow is here @doctorow.pluralistic.net
B. He’s on a custom PDS
C. HES USING HIS OWN FUCKING DID:WEB
The stock market's gains are being overwhelmingly driven by seven Big Tech companies who have invested heavily in AI, which has made tech oligarchs even wealthier.
But when that AI bubble bursts, the rest of us will be stuck holding the bag.
Be warned.

Everywhere I go, people are wearing Jays gear. People I know who have never watched baseball (me included) are staying up past midnight to for an 18th inning. The coffee shop has baseball donuts.
And, I cannot emphasize this enough, I am in a city *3000 km from Toronto*
Canada is behind this team
Trey Yesavage struck out 12 batters and walked none in seven innings of one-run ball in Game 5 of the freakin' World Series.
He also generated 23 whiffs tonight, the most by any pitcher in the World Series in the pitch-tracking era (since 2008).
Here are his dozen strikeouts against the Dodgers.
Dr. Sakuhei #Fujiwhara would be elated to see this 6-day forecast. When he wrote his paper on the process we now call the "Fujiwhara Effect" in 1921, numerical modeling and satellite imagery were still decades away. #Imelda #Humberto

If you were too young in 2003 here is what Bush told the American people:
1) The Iraq War won’t cost a lot of money
3) We won’t need a lot of troops
4) We’ll bring peace and freedom to Iraq
5) We’ll find WMDs
6) We’ll be welcomed as liberators
7) It will be easy
8) It won’t take long
All lies.
Bill Mitchell mansplaining to the head of Signal that Signal will soon integrate an LLM, despite Whittaker being vocal now and in the past that no, it won't, this being a rather foundational position. But no, he knows better.
Fabulous mansplaining, no notes.
RIP, Norm.
