“Jeep and Land Rover SUVs have average hood heights over 100cm. T&E’s report accused such auto companies of “trading on the intimidation that comes with high-fronted vehicles [and] ignoring their related dangers.” The organization is calling on the EU to cap hood heights at 85cm by 2035.”

It's officially April, which means it's the month of universal daylighting's hearing in the City Council!
@cmjuliewon.bsky.social's Intro 1138 would daylight 1,000 intersections per year — replacing parking closest to the intersection with physical infrastructure to improve visibility.
#bruxelles

The city cannot prevent #transit traffic. Because people's mobility is the lifeblood of the city's arteries. But it can ensure that this traffic is again free of major nuisances, pollution and road casualties.

It's high time we create larger, more peaceful neighborhoods throughout Brussels, not just in select streets on the outskirts of the Region. Every part of our city should be a great place to live !

Neighbourhoods closer to the centre of Brussels bear a lot of car traffic. The car is still king here.
Here too, calming neighbourhoods on a sufficiently large scale can encourage #modalshift and make alternatives the logical choice.

But in low-traffic neighbourhoods, transit passes through neighbouring streets. Reason why mobility has to be organised on a broader scale.
To encourage a modal shift towards walking, cycling and public transport.

More recently, modal filters have been installed across Brussels to prevent through car traffic.
The map clearly shows how the filters make it possible to create entire neighbourhoods where car traffic is local.

Since the middle of the 20th century, urban planners have been trying to design streets with mainly local car traffic.
So calming our streets... is far from being a fad of recent years.

Many streets outside the #Brussels 2nd ring road are planned to be dead-end or horseshoe-shaped, so that only local motorists will use them.

Is the traffic-calmed neighborhood a new trend in #Brussels ?
Let's have a look at the map of the city together !
It shows the neighbourhoods where the car traffic is local.

The answer (in part) = “Dutch drivers pay far more tax if they have a heavier car. The idea is to penalise those vehicles which most contribute to causing the potholes to help pay for the roads.”

Tactical urbanism is a method for quickly and affordably making small-scale changes to your city, and typically takes place in public spaces like streets, parks, and sidewalks.

Modale filters of 'knippen' zijn the talk of the town sinds Brussel kennismaakt met het mobiliteitsplan Good Move.
