Clay Gould Ballpark mid 1st inning
The return to casual sports watching rolls on.
Welcome to Clay Gould Ballpark, home of the UT-Arlington Mavericks. The. Sacramento State Hornets visit today for the first matchup in a three-game WAC conference series.
Add a couple B1G national titles to the list, @drewhamm5.bsky.social!
Minnesota's Brooklyn Rowray takes the crown on balance beam, becoming just the 2nd Gopher ever and 1st since 1990 to win a gym national title.
And, of course, it's Jordan Chiles for storied B1G program UCLA in floor exercise.
This household of a Texas and Wisconsin alum watched Oklahoma and Minnesota advance to the national final today and we're somehow holding it together
Minnesota gymnastics celebration
How 'bout them Gophers?!!?
Minnesota entered the NCAA Tournament ranked 13th. Now it's headed to its first national final.
After finishing behind UCLA in the regular season, B1G championships, and the NCAA regionals, the Gophers knock off the Bruins in the national semi. Hot damn.
Dickies Arena pregame
There really is something special in the air when you walk into the building on national championship weekend. Now in my seventh time getting to experience it, that feeling has yet to get old.
A little something extra special seeing Mom take it in for the first time. 🥲
Dickies Arena pregame or uh match? Meet?
Mom and I outside Dickies arena
Welcome to Dickies Arena, home of the 2025 NCAA women's gymnastics championships, my fourth NCAA title event in five weeks, but Mom's first ever!
First, LSU, Georgia, Stanford and Florida compete for 2 spots in Saturday's national final. Oklahoma, Arkansas, UCLA, and Minnesota to follow.

After one season at Wisconsin, #Badgers winger Blake Montgomery has singed his ELC with the Ottawa Senators.
The 2024 4th round pick was set to turn 21-years-old next month after spending time in the USHL and OHL.
9 goals and 8 assists in 38 games for UW.
Sydney Stoughton commitment graphic
There has been a flip.
Sydney Stoughton, an '09 forward in the projected 2027 recruiting class has committed to Penn State. She had committed to Minnesota last summer, but that social media post is now gone.
Was on the 2025 USA U18 Worlds roster and logged 2 assists.
I think a lot about the fact that the man's government name is "Earl Simmons"
Just heard someone out in the wild use the phrase "jeepers creepers" and I want to be their friend
A 1,400 word exercise in catharsis as #Badgers fans finally get the opportunity to experience this level of devastation again.
The latest chapter in Wisconsin's unfinished return to glory ends in a blessed kind of agony that is impossible without something UW lacked for far too long: hope.
In Mnookin's email above, sent to the UW-Madison "campus community," she refers to Interim AD Marcus Sedberry as the "general manager of Wisconsin Athletics."
That's not quite right. He's a Deputy AD, the department's COO, and the football program's GM.
Both interim Chancellor-designate Eric Wilcots and I are grateful that Deputy Athletic Director/Chief Operating Officer Marcus Sedberry has agreed to serve as interim director of athletics effective immediately. Marcus, who has been a part of the UW community since 2022, came to Madison with senior level experience in the SEC, Big 12 and National Football League. Since he joined us, Marcus has played an integral role in every aspect of our athletics enterprise while serving as Wisconsin Athletics’ deputy athletic director/chief operating officer. Beginning in February 2025, Marcus added the responsibility of general manager of Wisconsin Athletics, playing a pivotal role in building a comprehensive player-personnel and revenue-sharing strategy. We are confident that Marcus will serve campus well as he takes on this interim role. Given that my time as UW–Madison's chancellor is coming to a close, I have asked interim Chancellor-designate Wilcots to take the lead in determining what a search for a new director of athletics may look like and when it will occur. Badger Athletics is a critical part of our university; it also means so much to the broader community. I am confident that our student-athletes, coaches and staff will rise to the occasion during this period of change and continue to make us all proud.
Jennifer Mnookin, who is departing as UW-Madison Chancellor to take the same role at Columbia University, says the interim Chancellor will "take the lead" on the #Badgers AD search.
In a separate email addressed to "Badger Nation" McIntosh confirms has resignation is effective today and Marcus Sedberry (Deputy AD/COO/football GM) is the interim AD.
McIntosh said he "was not searching for something new," but sees the B1G gig "a natural extension of my work."
“As intercollegiate athletics continues to change at an unprecedented pace, it is essential for the Big Ten Conference to maintain its role as a national leader in academic and athletic excellence,” said Petitti. “To ensure we support our 18 institutions at the highest level possible, it is important to reinforce our leadership team with additional strategic experience. We are excited to add Chris at such a transformational time and know his experience as an athletics director, administrator and student-athlete in the Big Ten will serve him well in this role.”
“I have been a part of the Big Ten Conference as a student-athlete, administrator, and Athletic Director since arriving at Wisconsin in 1996. The opportunity to join Commissioner Petitti’s leadership team and help guide the Conference and its institutions toward a stronger future is an honor,” said McIntosh.
Per a release from the Big Ten, former #Badgers athletic director Chris McIntosh will officially begin his new role as the conference's "Deputy Commissioner for Strategy" on May 1st, 2026.
Statements from B1G commissioner Tony Petitti and McIntosh:
In the last 100 minutes:
- Chris McIntosh out
- Nick Oliver out
- Doc Rivers out
- Austin Rapp back
imo this joke was worthy of more engagement than it got
In what can only be described as the most-impactful personnel change for the #Badgers in the last 15 minutes, Wisconsin men's hockey assistant coach Nick Oliver is departing.
He will lead his alma mater as the 2nd-youngest men's DI hockey head coach.
Just remembered I was up watching this team at ridiculous hours while I was in India
What a treat they were to watch
Kedrick at UNLV softball
First sporting event as a casual observer in six months.
Wind's blowing out at Jim Rogers Field and Charelle Aki just hit a 2-run bomb over the second fence to put the UNLV Rebels back on top.
You can never say it’s “good” to lose a national title game by one goal, but the fact that I was Locked In on Wisconsin men’s hockey for the first time in…a decade (??) is undeniably “good.”
This team may have reunited UW’s passion for men’s hockey and Kedrick captures that here.

More coming from Vegas, but first, a huge thank you to all who clicked, read, and subscribed at badgerbreakaway.com this season.
You helped a proudly independent publication cover not one, not two, but three college hockey national championships.
Grateful for you, #Badgers fans.
Daniel Hauser gets a piece of his glove on DU's first goal and Ben Dexheimer hits the crossbar on a potential late-equalizer.
The #Badgers literally came up two inches short of a national championship.
A few miscues led to a third-period comeback that doomed the Wisconsin #Badgers.
Here's what happened.
Captain Ben Dexheimer on leaving the #Badgers better than 4 years ago:
"We've kind of set the standard for Wisconsin now. I couldn't be more proud to leave a place in the hands of the guys that are coming back next year and the coaching staff that will keep this program afloat."
"I'm just so proud of our seniors and what they've done for this program. It wasn't easy. I'm just so thankful to be a Badger." - #Badgers alternate captain Joe Palodichuk
#Badgers captain Ben Dexheimer: "I couldn't be prouder of this team from the ups and downs throughout the year."
