In other words, we can already see exit strategies and movements emerging both at the top and at the hyperlocal level of Fidesz.
We had the opportunity to speak with a local Fidesz mayor's "chief of staff" in a small village. Even though it’s anecdotal, I found it extremely revealing how openly he spoke about it.
While the Fidesz elite are moving their assets out of the country or cashing in their state-funded enterprise money to their private accounts, another notable event occurred last week during a field trip with one of my colleagues:

Mit Blick auf den morgigen Jahrestag der russischen Großinvasion erstaunt mich vor allem die eigene Diskrepanz in der Betrachtung von diesen vier Jahren. Einerseits das Gefühl, dass 2022 um Lichtjahre zurückliegt. Andererseits ist die Zeit so schnell vergangen, dass es wie vorgestern wirkt.

💥Dramatic turn in Hungary’s election race: Orbán rival Péter Magyar says that in 2024 his ex-girlfriend set a honey trap to secretly record them having sex—footage he claims Orbán’s camp plans to publish to ruin and blackmail him.
Magyar currently holds a big lead in the polls. Election in 59 days.
Today, in collaboration with @mertekmonitor.bsky.social, the Lab issued a report documenting how media capture and targeted pressure work together to narrow the space for independent journalism in Hungary. It proposes recommendations for countering this repression.
