Cadaver Synod - Wikipedia

When he finally croaks — after the celebrations wind down — they should dig him up and keep impeaching him like the Cadaver Synod

Every single infrastructure computer should be airgapped from the Internet has been my opening position since 1995 and I've only gotten more "I TOLD YOU SO" about it.

A few have suggested that some aspects of this mission--joy, international teamwork, diversity--are being played up to stick it to the hateful attitude of the administration. But I don't think it's that. I think it's just that those things are essential to and inseparable from a mission like this.

Y'all there is a woman and a black man circling the moon and NASA's mission control+ science teams are so diverse and people are nerding out about science and exploration this is all a gigantic middle finger to the stupid and hate and grotesque ghouls running our country

yaml is a great format, its so cool how files can be called either .yaml or .yml. that is a great feature that has never caused me any problems at all.

Avi Lewis: "We have shoved Canada Post so far into the market mindset that every few months we have a national conversation about why isn't Canada Post making money. Does the ambulance service make money? Do the police services make money? We're talking about a fundamental public service."

slop is something that takes more human effort to consume than it took to produce. When my coworker sends me raw Gemini output he’s not expressing his freedom to create, he’s disrespecting the value of my time

I'll note that although civilian PhDs are supposedly woke and America-hating and only know Marcuse & Habermas, but PhD nerd shops like RAND have been writing about the coming airfield vulnerability to regional power precision missile strikes since the 1990s.

I’m also in the “spaces around em-dashes” camp!

Abandon the em-dash in your human writing?

The irony—and it’s a big irony—is that real writers use em-dash frequently, and for reasons. As a written signifier of verbal speech pauses, it means something different than what commas and semi-colons mean. It connects while separating. 1/4

Pocket calculators are great at speeding up arithmetic, but my 7y/o son is not allowed to use one in class, and won't until he has proven he understands how to do all the arithmetic by himself.
We should treat LLMs the same way.

It is *fascinating* to me how quickly some people have gone completely from “we all must work in the office! human collaboration is vital and only happens in person!” to “I can replace all these pesky people with chatbots!” Definitely some commentary there about our society and who gets to choose.

I genuinely think schools should do basic fire safety and first aid courses as part of the curriculum. People often want to help and don’t know what to do!
