ASD is a mental health disorder (disability) DX by the DSM-5. Not an identity. "Identifying" as autistic, minimizes the challenges of individuals with the medical diagnosis. Please stop. Get a diagnosis from a medical professional. It's hard enough already to get insurance to pay for services.

I know formal diagnosis isn’t accessible for everyone, and self-ID can be meaningful. I just ask that people talk about it with care—for many families, autism isn’t a label or trend. It’s daily life. 💙

Autism isn’t just a self-discovery journey for us—it’s a condition that usually shows signs by 18 months and affects every part of life: communication, behavior, safety, school, and more. It’s relentless, beautiful, and hard.

Seeing a lot of adults talk about self-diagnosing autism lately, and as a parent of a child with a formal DSM-5 diagnosis, I have mixed feelings.
