This is super awesome! I'm quite happy about this.

We just open sourced the Renderite.Shared & Renderite.Unity parts of our current @resonite.com renderer - meaning it's now fully open source! :D
We're already getting some community contributions & improvements!

I don't know what self-moderation tools VRChat has. I think they don't have the same context of "session ownership / session admins" as Resonite has outside of group instances. However I guess you should still report harassment to VRC moderation so they take action against those people.
Complexity isn't protection against trolls, moderation is. Resonite has pretty solid self-moderation tools. Someone is bothering you in your session? Literally just kick them out or ban them from all your sessions. In someone elses session, you can talk to the host. Then of course file a report.
And Resonite has this art in it!
This is awesome! I love seeing more and more parts of Resonite being open-sourced.
We just open sourced the Unity-side of our current renderer for @resonite.com!
Because we want to:
- Help the custom renderer efforts
- Allow community patches
- Provide reference for community help with new official renderer

There's a myth being circulated that the @resonite.com Unity SDK will make it more difficult for us to move away from Unity as the renderer.
This is not true.
It was specifically engineered so it doesn't tie us to Unity.

That looks awesome! Love it.
I'll be starting work on the custom IK for @resonite.com called StrIKePose soon as our next major priority!

Strikepose will fix a lot of things. A lot of the frustration and awkwardness comes from the solver itself, but is expressed in different things, like the avatar calibrator or even the procedural locomotion animations looking weird. There's a good chance everything will just work better with it.
I'm very excited that @resonite.com will prioritize replacing the old IK solver with a custom solution next. Both because it's one of the largest frustration points users experience, but also because it might actually give me more reason to use FBT on my own! Especially once @fluxpose.com releases.
The tracking is fine, the IK solver is the problem. It's a pretty old implementation that has a number of issues and limitations. But Resonite's lead dev announced yesterday that replacing the IK with a better system is their next big development priority! So this will be addressed soon.
Okay? Is that a problem? I don't get the point of this post.
Resonite would definitely benefit from larger playerbase. But I also do think it's gonna get there over time. The big thing to note is that it doesn't really have to be either or. You can just play on multiple platforms, and that's what a lot of people do, even if they usually have a "main" one.
For user generated content platforms, usually porting something 1:1 from one to the other is pretty difficult, since they all have different creator tools and features. From my experience the experiences on those platforms do feel sufficiently different. It doesn't feel like it's "the same" stuff.
I think where the comparison with YouTube / Twitch and their competitors doesn't work out is that all of those are video / streaming platforms, but usually you have the same content that's also on the major once, since people just upload it to both.
In Resonite's case, it has already has enough of a player base to be sustainable. It's been profitable since launch, even with comparatively small player counts. Social VR platforms are primarily user generated content platforms. There's a lot of cool stuff on VRChat, but also on Resonite.
It sort of enables you to create a disconnect between how a person *is* like, and how a person *looks* like. Which is not something you can really do in the physical world.
I've been saying this for a while. I think in VR, it's easier to get to know who a person really is. In the physical world, everyone has prejudices and biases, that's just how we're raised. In VR however, people choose how others see them. They have more control over the first impressions of others.
The thing the people leaving nasty comments don't understand is that they are working against their own interests. What makes Resonite special is that it was built with passion by people that enjoy what they are doing. When the dev team is having fun, Resonite is getting better for everyone.
PhotonDust is a very powerful particle system. You can do a lot of pretty awesome effects that weren't possible before. Also the new subemitters are really useful.
If you find some feature missing, do make sure to request it on GitHub tho! The system is very modular and can easily be expanded.
I didn't know °^°
I watched it alone in my session because no one came back x3
Fair! In either case it looks really good.
Ah that's pretty cool. Did you use the new Unity SDK to port it over?
That's a very awesome avatar!
But can it be annual if it's the first? (Also I won't be able to attend, it starts at 1AM for me...)
If you ever wanted to understand the power of collaborative building in VR, I strongly recommend giving this video a watch.
A group of friends have built a tower defense game in a month and this video is excellent case study on how.
