The problem isn't that liberals of the colorful Germany oppose the AfD while maintaining an apolitical vision of diversity - it's that their framework makes real social transformation impossible to even imagine.

The real irony is that this shallow multiculturalism serves as the perfect companion to right-wing nationalism. Both positions, in their own way, avoid confronting the actual challenge: how to build a society that moves beyond the host-guest dynamic entirely.

Liberal Germany's multiculturalism is a comfortable fantasy: celebrating diversity through ethnic food while keeping power intact. The "hosting" metaphor forever marks some as guests in THEIR home. Is there a way of moving beyond both AfD's hatred and the festival multiculturalism.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​?
