40 YEARS AGO TODAY: Wide Awake Club promotes the Young Ones Living Doll with Hank Marvin and, in a rare promo appearance, Christopher Ryan. As if that didn't seem odd enough for that time of morning Tim Healy joins both for Arabella Warner's cooking spot.

In April 1992, Robert Altman's The Player was released, garnering lavish praise for its opening scene, a complicated ensemble tracking shot. In April 1990, Coronation Street was doing stuff like this, and nobody batted an eyelid.
I am VERY tempted to write another long post about how the decision in the 1970s not to establish a Norway-style sovereign wealth fund in favour of simply using the oil money to prop up finances at the time, has done more damage to the UK than any other decision in history. LONG THREAD, SORRY.
Rewind TV (Freeview ch. 81) is showing the series Rik Mayall Presents, in which plays various characters, starting tonight at 9.20pm.
Great to see @rewindtv.bsky.social showing Rik Mayall Presents...
The first episode - MICKY LOVE - is on tonight at 9:20pm.
Vastly underrated work from Rik, and showed a very different side to him.
Well, this has just marched in to my head from the distant past and taken up residence.

Arfon Haines Davies announcing in front of a mysterious street.
Any of my HTV-watching chums know where Arfon's background pic is? A colleague is on a mission to find out.

Spitting Image
TV listing A Topical comedy sketch show with hideously cruel caricatures of the 80 most important personalities in the world. An extremly impertinent attack on the sort of people usually remote from real criticism.
#OnThisDay 1984 : The first edition of Spitting Image was broadcast on ITV.
The original run lasted until 1996 but saw a comeback on #Britbox in 2020 for two series.
Any favourite moments, caricatures?

Every episode of "Interceptor" in one handy playlist, courtesy of "Lara Croft". She really digs up treasure.

BBC2 off-air of the Alexei Sayle episode from "Comic Roots". Aired 26th Aug 1983 and repeated twice more since (far as I can tell, once in 1984 and again in 1991). This seems to be a betamax transfer from the original broadcast. Lovely! www.youtube.com/watch?v=rstb...
I find this rare Young Ones publicity photo of the infamous Fifth Housemate more unsettling than the brief glimpses we get of them on screen. It's the fact that this mysterious ghostly presence is out there front and centre, *staring* at us. Brrrr.
I've started a new site where I'll be writing periodically about TV, films, music and the like.
To begin with, ahead of the 100th anniversary of his birth: Kenneth Williams and 1980s television - a story of commitment, triumph and upholstery.

I have only just this evening realised that the Smarties in the slogan doesn't refer to the product.
