“The US’s energy dominance strategy seeks to entrench dependence on fossil fuels, stall the green transition and strengthen US power.”

“Cuba’s crisis is part of the US ‘energy dominance’ strategy, using coercion and force to control energy supplies and, ultimately, Cuba itself.”
Cuba could break the US blockade with renewables — & the world should help pay for it.

a new report by @cashman.bsky.social at @transitionsec.bsky.social on the US’s war on Cuba, the resulting energy crisis in Cuba, and a possible counter to the US strategy of energy dominance

“Cuba is in the midst of a US-imposed energy and humanitarian crisis.”
Our new briefing by @cashman.bsky.social examines how Cuba could break free of US energy dominance with renewables — and why the world should help pay for it.

“We’ve had heavy bombers, US strategic bombers, being launched from British soil to strike Iran. It’s a key part of the US strategy and it means that we are unfortunately involved in this illegal and destabilising war.” Khem Rogaly on @lbc.co.uk 👇
This is exactly what @cashman.bsky.social and I warned about last week in @the-breakdown.bsky.social: oil shocks have all sorts of bad outcomes- higher prices hit working class people the hardest, windfall profits for oil companies, and as seen here, justification for new fossil fuel production
“Security cannot be achieved through force projection in the Gulf. In the meantime, the people of Iran & working-class communities across the world will continue to suffer the consequences of US fossil energy dominance”

"Windfall profits are the hidden redistribution that happens with every oil shock...They are perfectly legal, thoroughly opaque and a recurring part of the system, as we see now with the war on Iran." www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...
“The war on Iran is part & parcel of the US’s omnicidal ‘energy dominance’ agenda, turbocharging the climate crisis today while rooted in the long standing architecture of a fossil fuelled empire.”

Our final tally of the climate pollution cause by Israel and allies' assault on Gaza is out today in @cp-oneearth.bsky.social. Emissions are not the most important reason to demand an end to the US & Israel's aggressive, illegal military interventions, but they are yet another reason to demand it.
"The Transition Security Project estimates that the 2022 energy shock cost the EU and UK $1.8tn between 2022 and 2025, while US firms made $241bn in windfall profits. Higher inflation pushed up interest rates, making capital-intensive renewables harder to finance than fossil fuels."
“Instead of clinging on to a broken transatlantic partnership, Europe needs to develop an independent foreign policy based on international solidarity, restraint and climate collaboration.”

Great write up of the tremendous work by my colleague @cashman.bsky.social showing the absurdly huge cost that Europeans are paying for hitching their wagon to US LNG instead of going all-in on renewables.
The US–Israeli attack on Iran will deepen the cost of living crisis.
The last energy shock cost Europe $1.8tn. Europe’s leaders have backed the illegal war that may cause the next shock.
The transatlantic alliance is Europe’s trillion dollar bill. 🧵

The U.S. torpedoed a ship w/ 180 crew that was 2k miles from Iran
It had just been in a joint exercise that....the US had also been in.
The ship “thought it was safe in international waters,” said Hegseth, “instead, it was sunk by a torpedo,”
Just 32 survivors.

It's worth noting that Iran, Cuba, Venezuela, and Denmark, facing aggression, all negotiated with the US and made extraordinary concessions.
Nevertheless, the US attacked Venezuela and Iran and is blockading Cuba.
The US wants control, not concessions.
Next week, Reps. Ro Khanna and Thomas Massie will force a vote to stop Trump’s march to an illegal, disastrous war with Iran.
Call 1-833-STOP-WAR (1-833-786-7927) to connect with your Reps to urge them to vote YES on the Khanna-Massie War Powers Resolution.
“As a Palestinian, the best moment of my life was being on top of an Israeli weapons factory with a sledgehammer being able to destroy that site. And knowing, that just that by being there and causing damage, they would have to shut down. Not just while I was there, but for weeks after.”

Rep. Thomas Massie and I have requested a meeting with Todd Blanche to ask why the senders of these emails have been redacted.
Concealing the reputations of these powerful men is a blatant violation of the Epstein Transparency Act we passed.
This is just insane. It’s only a matter of time before DHS kills another innocent person here.

The staff reported seeing a human femur and other bones on the roads, dead bodies abandoned in cars and “catastrophic human needs, particularly for food and safe drinking water.” But the U.S. ambassador to Jerusalem, Jack Lew, and his deputy, Stephanie Hallett, blocked the cable from wider distribution within the United States government because they believed it lacked balance, according to interviews with four former officials and documents seen by Reuters.
Everybody who perpetrated this while covering it up should be in the Hague

The earlier incident started when he stopped his car after observing ICE agents chasing what he described as a family on foot, and began shouting and blowing his whistle, according to a source who asked not to be named out of fear of retribution. Pretti later told the source that five agents tackled him and one leaned on his back – an encounter that left him with a broken rib. The agents quickly released him at the scene. “That day, he thought he was going to die,” said the source.
My gosh. Alex Pretti was notifying neighbors that Trump and Vance's agents were chasing a family. A mob of agents then tackled him and broke his rib.
He thought he was going to die.
Then the very next week, he came back out to support his neighbors.
And a mob of agents killed him.
🚨HOLY CRAP. An ICE whistleblower just revealed a secret memo authorizing ICE officers to break into homes without a judicial warrant, which DHS's own legal training materials say is unconstitutional!
ICE then hid the memo from the public, passing it along by word of mouth and private conversation.
This line graph illustrates the percentage change in agency staff levels from the previous year for nine major U.S. federal scientific and health organizations between the fiscal years 2016 and 2025. The agencies tracked include the CDC, Department of Energy, EPA, FDA, NASA, NIH, NIST, NOAA, and NSF. For the majority of the timeline between 2016 and 2023, the agencies show relatively stable fluctuations, generally staying within a range of +5% to -5% change per year. However, there is a dramatic and uniform plummet starting in the 2024–25 period. Every agency depicted shows a sharp downward trajectory, with staffing losses ranging from approximately -15% to over -25%. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) shows the most significant decline, dropping to roughly -26%, while the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) shows the least severe but still substantial drop at approximately -15%.
This is the most astonishing graph of what the Trump regime has done to US science. They have destroyed the federal science workforce across the board. The negative impacts on Americans will be felt for generations, and the US might never be the same again.
