It’s been awful. I’m so tired

At the national family med conference last week I got to chatting with physician recruiters from Ontario. They said usually they just talk to Canadians at the conference, sometimes who are in the US looking to move back. But this year…lots of Americans
My spouse will appear to brace herself against the dashboard as though expecting a sudden crash when she spies a red light a block away.
we survived janice raymond and that was before we had reams of evidence backing the necessity of gender-affirming care.
we will survive this ridiculous news cycle, too. don’t lose your head over it.
Just to be clear, this is a violation of the fundamental ethical principle in clinical trial design called "equipoise."
Equipoise means that no-one is exposed to excess risk just to test the therapy. That's specifically *why* vaccine trials don't use placebo arms.
Ethical violation as POLICY.
The program currently receives over two thousand calls per day
President Trump and his administration are coming after Minnesota, threatening to cut off our federal funding unless we turn our backs on trans kids. This is bullying, plain and simple.
And today, April 22, I filed a lawsuit to stop them.

As someone who experienced threats and harassment from armed extremists for over a decade, I have empathy for anyone who feels afraid of retaliation for free speech. But at the end of the day, we all must make a choice: back down or double down.
The entire CDC lead program has been eliminated.
Lead exposure can lead to many issues including anemia & irreversible brain damage in young children.
It was <10 years ago we learned that 99,000 people in Flint Michigan had been exposed.
If only eliminating programs eliminated the risk.
I wonder if economists feel like we did during the pandemic…or actually still do?

You probably saw pictures (or live) of the huge numbers of protestors across the country yesterday. Over a million!
Which coincidentally is about the annual death toll from tuberculosis, a curable bacterial infection.
Seems like a much bigger deal when you can visualize the impact like that.
If you need a reminder of why the tariffs are a public health issue as well:
▶️About *80%* of our active pharmaceutical ingredients are produced abroad.
▶️About *50%* of our generic drugs are manufactured overseas
This means increased costs in an inevitably strained generic drug supply. Not good
That’s our guy!
As former center director at AHRQ, it is devastating to watch it be dismantled. With amazing staff, AHRQ catalyzed improvement in safety, quality, equity, etc. The US Preventive Services Task Force must be preserved.

Et voilà: our NEH grant with Harriet Murav for “In the Shadow of the Holocaust: Short Fiction by Jewish Writers from the Soviet Union” has been terminated. This project does not, the letter notes, support “the furtherance of the President’s agenda.” I guess work on Jews surviving genocide is out of step with the agenda of this presidential administration whose only use for Jews is the weaponization of Jewish safety to destroy higher education.
My @nehgov.bsky.social grant “In the Shadow of the Holocaust: Short Fiction by Jewish Writers from the Soviet Union” was canceled by “DOGE.” The project doesn’t support "the furtherance of the President's agenda.” Jews surviving genocide: out of step w/ the agenda of using Jews to destroy higher ed.

The problem is: they've mistaken correlation for causation. They think their parents and grandparents had a good life *because* of manufacturing jobs. When, in reality, their parents and grandparents had a good life *despite* manufacturing jobs, because of unions, high taxes, and social policies.
You know what's cool about all of this is climate change. We're still cooking the planet but giving it zero attention
