I’m really glad I’ve watched some of Bleach, all of JJK, and KPop Demon Hunters on my Darker By Four reread in preparation for Brighter Than Nine… June’s world building always made sense but now it really hits hard! #amreading @junescribbles.bsky.social

There are many things not to love about New York City but having everyone in the coffeeshop ignore me & act normal while I sob into my overpriced latte while reading Sunrise On the Reaping is absolutely a Love 😂😭

Fictional villains: my motivation involves a complex backstory around lost love and a deep yearning to be understood

Real life villains: being cruel makes me feel like a big strong man

Earnest post, but: a thing I like here is it’s okay to have moments of happiness in public without being broadly scolded, and I believe that sustaining this kind of humanity will be very important as we resist fascism.

We have to sustain each other. Making joy isn’t denial, it’s how we will survive

Today, I found out that the Department of Defense banned the Well-Read Black Girl anthology by Glory Edim. I was one of its contributors.

I'm really hurt right now. So if you have it in you, please buy books by Black women from independent bookstores.

My U.S. Rep, a Democrat, held a town hall and explicitly said that THE REASON she was speaking out louder now was because she got so many calls and emails.

DEFINITELY YELL AT THEM. It’s the only language they speak. It’s literally how they gauge public opinion.

a meme

Top panel of the image is labelled "imagining the scene I'm about to write in great detail" and there is Bugs bunny dressed like a maestro, standing in front of a computer screen with a scene of theoden leading the charge into battle

Bottom panel is labelled "Writing the scene in question" and there's Tom the cat from Tom and Jerry writhing and looking away from a computer screen with a blank word document on it

This was a little easier in my mental simulations...

A Friday reminder that having your book banned doesn't sell books.

Only THE MOST banned books see support, and I assure you all those creators would prefer their books were NOT banned instead.

There's no silver lining. It's just the knowledge that ppl hate you!

Ok have a good weekend

Book bans impact public libraries & bookstores, but it’s school libraries where they are rampant ❤️‍🩹

Many kids are unable to make it to the public library. They can’t drive, often times the library isn’t in walking distance. It’s not that their grown-ups don’t want them to be library kids.

A book cover depicting 5 beasts floating in the sky, four of which frame a beast in the middle. On the top left is a short ape-like creature resembling an orangutan. On the top right is an "asian unicorn": a beast resembling barongsai/lion dancer creature but with antlers like deer and legs like a horse. On the bottom left is a werewolf-esque creature that has the body of a gorilla and the head of a wolf with red eyes. On the bottom right is the Garuda: a creature that has the head and beak of a bird (like an eagle) and body of a man with wings. This creature is bejeweled and wears a sarong. The creature in the middle resembles a harpy or alkonost- a bird with the face and form of a woman. It's long body is that of a peacock, with a long colorful tail of feathers. In the background is a small hill with a temple. The oceans and a dock are nearby, where wooden boats are seen. Among the beasts is the title: "THE BEASTS BENEATH THE WINDS, Tales of Southeast Asia's Mythical Creatures. Edited by Hanna Alkaf"
