Say £1 in every £4 ends up as profit in the wider UK energy system. Tinkering at the edges is meaningless.
If you are on a pre-payment meter in Scotland that’s maybe £300-£500 of your likely low annual income to profiteering & you are still cold in winter.

So far the war on Iran has cost $9.4 billion.
That's $1 billion per day.
$41,666,667 per hour.
$11,574 per second.
Thousands of lives lost.
People don't want this. They want a living wage. They want healthcare. They want to be able to afford a home. They want their basic needs met.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

Orkney Council has confirmed all profits from its new wind farm will go into local services - wealth will circulate locally, not flow to distant shareholders.
It's a glimpse of what community benefit from renewables can look like. But how typical is this?

Sorry to burden you with another jaw-dropping scandal. But what the government intends to do to chemicals regulation in the UK is chilling. Its consultation was slipped out so quietly that most of us missed it. When I read it, I saw why.

BBC Radio Scotland reframing rent controls as the market working under different conditions actually made me laugh out loud. Homes are for living not profiteering or protecting the market or anything else…living, providing safe, affordable housing is a necessity greens.scot/save-rent-co...

I'm disgusted that contractors have demolished protected bird nesting sites during the breeding season in Burntisland.
Forth Ports need to come clean about whether they ordered contractors to take the old BiFab hanger down killing flightless juvenile birds and destroying dozens of nesting sites.
Tesco's chief executive, Ken Murphy, was paid 431 times more than a typical Tesco worker.
They said: “We remain committed to a competitive and fair reward package for all colleagues."
Sorry - what???
Incredibly concerned to see the forcible interception of the Madleen in international waters, and thinking of all those who were on board and have been detained. UK must condemn this breach of international law and immediately demand their release.
Rachel Reeves vs reality: The economics of the two-child cap youtu.be/b3GFjLR0Wjs?... The government claims it cannot afford to pay benefits for the elderly, children in poverty, and people with disabilities. That is nonsense. Simple economic analysis shows that these benefits pay for themselves.
If you asked child poverty charities 5 years ago what they thought they would be doing in the first years of a post-tory labour government, I bet they wouldn't say this...

Whatever U.K. Labour tells Anas to believe in but there’s plenty he cannot get to grips with - less migration but nae social care or further education changes to manage the gaps. Disnae want council tax, social security, land reform or anything that could make a difference to people of Scotland
All of us.... every single last one of us... are descended from immigrants. And without it, this country would just be a bunch of uninhabited islands on the edge of the world. Everything that built this country... and everything it is... springs from that. And we should embrace it, not decry it.

Anas Sarwar MSP, leader of the UK Labour Party’s Scottish branch office, during the June 2024 UK general election promising that if Labour were elected they would save the jobs at the Grangemouth refinery. They didn’t and it’s closing.
But remember, Labour will save the jobs at Grangemouth refinery.
why is *every* newspaper/programme running with the headline "tariffs are paused" when they haven't been.
What's happened is that every country (except China) gets a flat rate of 10% for 90 days.
In one case a landlord tried to raise rent by a staggeringly unaffordable 121%, from £520 to £1150!
Over the last year the rent cap has kept increases to a maximum of 12%. But the SNP allowed it to expire this morning.
They must reinstate the renters protections immediately.
