Reese used it as a way to express his hatred, since he’d previously lost his daughter and Soren became an extension of that hatred after becoming his apprentice (he ends up continuing that research later on in Reese’s stead)

Reese revealed his research to Soren once he was old enough, that he had been dissecting segyein captures in order to understand their anatomy based on the type of segyein they are so that weak points could be determined and humans might have an upper hand

He developed a habit of overworking in his mid teens just because he wanted to prove himself over anything else (but Dewey always still managed to find ways to trick him into taking breaks back then) and Soren learned how to treat Dewey’s injuries on his own

A lot of Soren’s happiness relies on his self worth so all the efforts he makes never feel like enough (considering the emphasis on his worth from when Atoru owned him + the pressure of living up to Reese’s legacy now that he was his successor

Dewey developed a fascination with him (and wanting to know what his deal was) so he constantly made excuses to be admitted for a doctor visit so he had more chances to see Soren again

Jacob checked to make sure Soren was adjusting well after he had recovered a little bit more and his first meeting with Dewey happens then because Jacob figured a friend might help (even though Soren found Dewey too overwhelming at that point because of how energetic he was)

One of the first points developed between them is Reese making sure he wasn’t in pain since that’s something Soren was never provided before even after everything he’s been through and he asked if it was normal to feel like this (because he didn’t hurt anymore)

His mentor’s name is Reese, and he formerly worked to provide medical aid to the children brought into Jacob’s care ( and anyone in the slums in general ) and Reese decided to take in Soren instead since he needed to pass on his knowledge to somebody)

Soren officially managed to escape anakt when he was still very young (around 13) which this allowed him to be discovered by Jacob back then and led to him being taken into the care of a doctor (Soren’s former mentor)

Atoru also made it a clear point to try getting an value he could from him, especially the credit he would receive from shaping such an unfortunate child into a star and overall wanted to bring out Soren’s potential through any means

He first grew up in the slums when he was very little (prior to his adoption and placement into anakt garden ) and the segyein that adopted him (atoru) made it obvious that it was done out of pity considering the situation that Soren was in at the time

Soren currently serves as a medic for the rebels! He’s been training with his mentor to help provide medical aid ever since he was younger, so he always looks after the wellbeing of the other rebels even if he has to be stern about it. (with Dewey especially)
