Some members of my doctoral cohort are super โwait until course evaluation timeโ & it GIVES ME THE ICK.
Weโre all professional educators; you canโt send an email / set up a conference to explain why things arenโt working for you? BE AN ADULT.
And yes, they are.

Part of why we remain here is that most people don't interact with the actual criminal punishment system, they are stuck in Law & Order land and fantasy land.
Yโall have also sold out the second screeningโฆAND the virtual tickets.
Thank you so much! River Run is also screening, โFree Joan Little.โ This is an outstanding two-fer w/ our short doc. Together they represent a rich era of political organizing in the piedmont.

Sometimes I feel like I'm talking too much about my father's passing.
But screw it. I have questions.
When I try to do nice things for myself (going to a concert! Finally arranging my apartment!) I'm hit with a wave of sadness-- and maybe guilt-- after.
Is this normal? Is this forever?
Every single one of the astronauts who went to the moon and back on Artemis II was educated at a public school.
Thinking of the teachers who poured into Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen tonight. You helped send a kid to the moon!

Yes, this is real.
It was an honor to tell the truth.
Preorders are love, yโall.
Before a crew of us reinvent the wheel, does anyone know of a direct action personal risk assessment tool specific to school workers? ๐
Sending love to you.

I really want to zero in on this aspect of this piece: a lot of adults cling to tech assuming that theyโre meeting students where theyโre at technologically, but that is increasingly not the case. More and more adolescents express sentiments like the ones here โ WE need to let go.
So proud of our colleagues. Taught them both; my research partner @amystorn.bsky.social was their PhD mentor. โค๏ธ๐ #PennGSE
My friend Nelba challenged me to offer some poetry reading/analysis workshops. Iโm considering it for the summer!
It would be pay what you can & the focus would be analysis, discussion, connecting old classics to new genius, & how to gift poetry to young people.
What do you think? Any interest?
Everybody has a bad take sometimes. People you respect can be wrong in their framing or just plain wrong about a thing. People would lose their minds about this less if we viewed each other as whole, flawed human beings.
I'm talking with Cotten Seiler this evening at Flyleaf Books in Chapel Hill, NC about his new, very well done book, "White Care: The Impact of Race on American Infrastructure."

Here are some research ideas:
1. How do Black women English teachers in the state of Texas perceive state takeovers as influencing their decisions to remain in the profession?
2. How does the standardization of curriculum impact Black English teacher self-efficacy?

you don't control other people. focus on yourself.
Big takeaway for me is that a teacherโs fluency with content knowledge is really important. Thatโs not exactly a revolutionary idea, but it matters in the context of the discourse around HQIM/scripted curricula โ we donโt need more scripts; teachers need more time to build content knowledge.
Creativity is not a talent. It's a process and a practice available to everyone.
Folks who are struggling with the news about Cesar Chavez, be gentle with yourselves. You are not obligated to consume all of the awful details. You can simply offer your belief and support to those who were harmed.
I read the NYT piece, and I am holding onto the words of a woman who fended off inappropriate advances from a 60-year-old Cesar Chavez at the age of 19. โIt makes you rethink in history all those heroes,โ Esmeralda Lopez said. โThe movement โ thatโs the hero.โ
Anyway, what I like about being here is I can think out loud โ the way I used to on Twitter.
Since my dad died and my professional life has been blown up in more ways than oneโ
Iโve been thinking a lot about what it means to just โฆ figure shit out and keep going.
Even if I have a slight limp.
movements aren't separate from society. they are part of society. every social problem in society will be found in movements.
