Awful news. My eldest g’daughter is a 2nd grade student here. She loves going & thrives in her school. Her little sis will soon enroll. Both my sons did K-12 in AK public schools & have done well in life. Schools are being punished for societal failures. Music and art are essential.

That @ 40% of US voters swallow that bs kinda proves the Great Satan name given to us by Iran. 🤦🏼‍♂️

We teachers have known this forever. Schools are blamed for society’s failure.

“Education policy and socioeconomic policy are really strongly connected,” Thomas said. “Test scores are a reflection of the socioeconomic status of the students.”

Ok I'm bored and want to procrastinate work so let's do a thread instead. Wanna hear a story?

Alright then, story it is. So gather around, children, because now we're going to talk about the most important science book you've probably never heard of.

Ready? Off we go, then.

I had my car’s studded tires switched out to summer ones yesterday. 🤦🏼‍♂️
My bike is still winter-ready, so there’s that.

In 1990, then Governor Steve Cowper, proposed a state-wide vote to establish an educational permanent fund in Alaska. It didn’t receive enough AK Senate votes to approve letting citizens vote on it. Instead, we’ve slowly strangled public education funding. 🤷‍♂️

Scientists Filmed a Whale Birth. The Surprise: Mom Had Many Helpers.

Humans are awful.

Whales are wonderful. Here’s a story that’s an antidote to the madness of king don old. We need helpers, not petulant war mongers.

Thanks for writing this. Sadly, T’s base doesn’t care, and the Rs in Congress, especially Mick 3 & Sullivan, enable this corruption.

Um, the world isn’t that simple, but sure, simple minds like yours need simple explanations.

I don’t think many, if any, people support the repressive Iranian regime.

How many people has the US killed through wars we have started over lies (Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Iran just to name a few)?

I like what he has to say, but I also like what Matt Shultz has to say. It’s good to have rank choice this fall. As long as Nick 3 gets < 50%, and the second ranking puts either Hill or Shultz ahead, I’ll be happy.

We live in the stupidest times. The tRump administration is purposely making decisions to make life worse for people and the planet.

Same, although I was 19. There wasn’t an alternative to McGovern. I’m still glad I voted for him. Just as I am that I voted for HRC and Kamala.

Kumbaya & strongly worded posts ain’t cutting it. Unless we kinda shut the country down, we have entered the complicit stage. It’s our responsibility to end the madness we’ve foisted on the world. I think we’re too damn comfortable to do so.

Waiting for the mid-terms can’t be the only plan.

Description of a fatbike ride. 12 miles over 3 trails 2 hours 30 minutes.

12 miles with 8” of fresh powder at 4° F over a packed base. Made 2 snow angels. Lunch stop along the trail. Started and ended directly from my house. Bright sunshine fun, but the legs are tired today.

Haven’t sent it in yet b/c I owe $2500. Fed tax. If only we could assign where that $ went. Not for war. Nor ICE, nor love-nest jets. Nor pedo coverups, nor crypto scams, nor oligarchs, nor oil companies. For schools, health care, clean air&water, alt energy, justice, bike lanes, trains, diplomacy.

We had @ 150 fatbikers participate in the Big Fat Ride, setting out after the dog teams. Despite the cold, the sun was glorious and there was no wind! We had an after-party at
49th State Brewery to cap a fun ride! Past years most def had more spectators.
