Sunday listening: Madonna ‘Burning Up’ - with all the fuss around the ‘I Feel Free’ digital drop over the weekend it seemed apt to play this. Picked up her US only second single way back when she was in still in nyc hanging with Martin Burgoyne, Keith Haring & Basquiat. Still a monster of a tune ✊🏿

Good on you
Sunday listening; Tom Skinner ‘Kaleidoscopic Vision’ - more than drummer with Shabaka, Tom is a band leader in the truest sense of the word. Special mention to Adrian Utley and Meshell Ndgeocello A real close your eyes and take it in record ✊🏿
Sunday/birthday listening: Raye ‘This music may contain hope’. Thanks for all the birthday messages. Among the mix of presents + eggs is (courtesy of my bro) a 4-sided suite. Captivating music mixing soul with wit and wisdom along with references to Amy, negroni and Al Green - a brilliant record. ✊🏿
Sunday listening: Tim Bernardes ‘Mi Colas Invisiveis’ - playing this to welcome the summer. It’s a warm album from São Paulo touching on all aspects of freedom in love. Psychedelic Brazilian folk pop chamber songs that are like petals scattered on the street. One to savour ✊🏿
Good on you. It’s pretty brave to talk about this, most people just wouldn’t know how to
And hardly anyone is pulling them up on this. Why am I not surprised?
Sunday listening: The Beatles ‘The Beatles’ - wonderful to rediscover this. A sprawling collection of over 25 songs, written alone, together, in good mood, bad mood sometimes thrilled, sometimes angered, sometimes acquiesced. The result is a sonic forest of fresh wood and fertile weeds. Like life. ✊🏿
Sunday listening: Nelson Riddle ‘The Today Sound of Nelson Riddle’ - a set of pop-folk tunes arranged & conducted by Nelson Riddle back in 1970. Takes songs from Laura Nyro, Gerry Goffin & Carol King and Jim Morrison among others to a contemporary orchestral dimension. Luscious this morning ✊🏿
Totally
Sunday listening: Rizzle Kicks ‘Competition is for Losers’ - from the minds of the questioning. Jordan & Harley’s return must be one of my albums of the past 12 months. An under-explored land ✊🏿
Sunday listening: Jorja Smith ‘Falling or Flying’ - a diary charting an emotional rollercoaster. A tale of disappointment that’s never down. The sounds are bewitching. Sonic vulnerability is truly defiant. ✊🏿
Hat Full Of Stars
So many here’s one
Sunday listening: Binker Golding ‘Dream Like A Dogwood Wild Boy’ - I picked this up yesterday and wasn’t expecting THIS. A mind blowing Americana-fused London jazz record. Imagine a calm drive through a green yet dry landscape. Winner ✊🏿
Yes. It’s prob the State Department that has the full picture. Most likely the President got told the minimum
There really is a story here. Guess we’ll never know the truth
This is just amazing
Sunday listening: Amy Winehouse ‘Frank’ - a jazz album by without doubt one of the greatest singers ever. Every listen is a different listen. And a rewarding one ✊🏿
No pearls needed
Sunday listening 1: Prince ‘Diamonds and Love’ - a monster! 25 tracks recorded inbetween the Diamonds and Pearls + Love Symbol albums inc songs written with Rosie Gaines, the tune he wrote for Kylie’s debut Deconstruction album and tracks meant for Mavis Staples and Patti LaBelle. Wonderful ✊🏿
Sunday morning listening: Shabaka ‘Perceive Its Beauty, Acknowledge Its Grace’ - floating in an intense atmosphere of flute, harp, sounds and voices from the sky above. A journey I can only describe as cloudbusting ✊🏿
Sunday listening: David Bowie ‘Station to station’ - released from space 50 years ago this week ✊🏿
Sunday listening: SAULT ‘Today & Tomorrow’ - my favourite set from this collective; a fascinating left-field punk gospel record that hits every spot. The inside out ✊🏿
10 years - that’s special, congrats
Sunday listening 1: D’Angelo ‘Voodoo’ - questioning the masculine and feminine using words and beats to lubricate the ground we walk on. A gift ✊🏿
Sunday listening 1: Various ‘All the lonely people’ - a mysterious set made up of interpretations of Beatles tunes by artists from across the globe in the late 60s/70s. Great start to the new year ✊🏿
Sunday listening 1: Dusty Springfield ‘Longing’ - the canned record she made for ABC/Dunhill in ‘74. A real shame - her take on the west coast singer/songwriter vibe is magnificent 😂
Sunday listening: Dexys Midnight Runners ‘Too-rye-aye’ - I can’t explain it but without doubt a record that brings back memories of Christmas. Stunning ✊🏿
Sunday listening: Nona Hendryx ‘Nona’ - her first post-Epic album deftly insists with synth, electric lead and gospel sonics in the places you’d least expect. Extra surprises with drop ins from Laurie Anderson + Sly Dunbar. This is her Dirty Mind ✊🏿
