There's a sharp uptake in people claiming to be life-coaches now online.
They will fix all of your problems including dread of pending WW3 for a fee...
Here's my FREE advice to all:
I remember working in the tax office in the 90s and having to do a search for someone 'working' in Sacred Heart Convent/Bessboro Mother & Baby Home in Cork - they all had been registered with the same name. Illegal, obviously.
1926 census entry
1926 Census:
Sean McDermott Street Magdalene Laundry.
30 nuns and over 100 other women.
Occupation entered as: Laundress.
The incarceration of women in the early Free State.

I'll be cycling past my local school around lunchtime today and fully expect to have to use the road, rather than, you know, the actual purpose-built segregated cycle path, designed to let schoolchildren cycle safely to school...

Happy 80th birthday to Tim Curry who has always, *always* understood the assignment.
Huh. Looking at my mother's household entry in the #1926census. She had a sibling who died in childhood that I never knew about.
Related: I have said it before and I'll say it again - when I am king of the world, all councillors who are physically able to do so will be required to cycle to council meetings, so they can see what it's like for the rest of us!
Very much looking forward to seeing Simon live in concert next month!
Carol Nolan now speaking under 'Other Members' Questions' - the contentious modern-day creation to give speaing time to TDs who are ostensibly government supporters.
Nolan yesterday voted no confidence in the government.
Police officers stand in the street, as tractors block Dublin's O'Connell Street, as part of a protest over the high cost of fuel that clogged up busy thoroughfares and motorways across Ireland for a second successive day, in Dublin, Ireland April 8, 2026
The meta, Meta and meaning of the Irish fuel protests - a longish read about what more than 20 years of studying and covering the far right has taught me about these political moments.

The academic and media voices, then, are drinking in a nazi bar.
For pure newsletters, I'm subscribing to ones published via beehiiv.com (annoying spelling that autocorrect hates!), ghost.org and buttondown.com
But is in substack, the platform that monetises nazis...
Is #ICTU waking up?! Or just turning over in its sleep?

To my non tech normies, PSA: when you share a link, everything after the ? is tracking. Those “query parameters” tell companies exactly how you arrived, what app you clicked, which ad or email sent you, sometimes a unique identifier tied to you. You can delete everything after the question mark.

I just managed to translate a future conditional(?) sentence into Irish - admittedly a very simple one! - and when I checked it on translayte.com all I'd gotten wrong was a missing séimhú and a slight spelling mistake on the modified bit of the future tense verb. Small steps!

Ireland's Ancient Animals, for which at least some evidence was found to suggest they once roamed this island, even if only for a while. Some might even make a comeback! Featuring the Irish elk, bear, lynx, great auk, wild boar, & wolf. #SpéirGhorm #SciArt

Feck off, you're not poaching our free Luas!
Tumblr is Tom Bombadil, there's some weird shit going on in the woods and we don't really want to talk about it
Social media apps as Lord of the Rings characters, a thread:
Twitter: Twitter is Gollum. Began as a normal halfling. Overexposure to evil left it thin and stretched and bitter.
So we shouldn't plant any oak trees, because we'd be dead by the time they grow big enough...
Nuclear is _fine_ - as long as it's just being imported via undersea cables?
That's a fairly shitty take.
Nothing wrong with small modular nuclear, France is doing it right and largely has energy independence.
Well, that'll teach FFG to not block the Strait of Hormuz again!
this wikipedia editor is orbiting the moon right now!
A screenshot from 17776. Green text on a black background: .On April 7th, 2026, people stopped being born. On the same day, people stopped dying, and people stopped aging.
Ahhh, it's today!
If you've never read 17776 (or even if you have), today is the perfect day to read one of my favourite pieces of storytelling ever.
No, it's not about football.

Personal home PC: I've been switched on? Here - have Teams! You've closed Teams? Must have been by accident - I'll open it again for you!
Office PC: What the fuck do you need Teams for? No, I don't care if it's in my startup folder, I'm not opening that shit unless you click the icon!
Wait, what do you mean, today's not a public holiday?!
Apart from all the other female cosmonauts and astronauts - Valentina Tereshkova, Sally Ride, Eileen Collins (there's a long list), not to mention all the ones who've been on the ISS... sure, I guess?
