Myles Straw just showed what 94th percentile sprint speed is good for.

Dylan Cease hasn't been efficient enough in this one, but the fact that he's got 99.5 mph heat on his 106th pitch of the ballgame is remarkable.
You rarely see an at-bat uglier than that...
One out into this game the Blue Jays have topped their run total from their last 4 games combined.
It's an unmistakably grim moment for the Blue Jays right now, but there are genuine reasons to be optimistic about this pitching staff: www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/...
The Jays need to tread water until players get healthy, but right now they don't seem to be doing even that.
This week @nickashbourne.bsky.social and I talk all about it, the new hitters, the ever-complicating starting pitching situation, Closer Discourse, & more!

Lenyn Sosa is off to a cold start, but it's not hard to see the appeal of a guy who hit 22 HR last year with a 100 wRC+ and has some versatility around the infield.
After putting up 2 Ks in that inning, Jeff Hoffman has now struck out half of the batters he's faced this season.
Great 9-pitch battle between Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Taj Bradley that ended in a walk.
Vladdy entered the game 7-for-14 against Bradley in his career.
Normally, when hitters swing so hard that they stumble, they only hit air. Jesús Sánchez swung out of his shoes, and it resulted in a 406-foot home run.
After today's outing, Spencer Miles has 9.1 IP in 2026. That's a new career high for IP in a pro season, beating the 8.2 he managed in the Arizona Fall League last year.
He's been a pro since 2022. Such a tough road injury-wise.
Rough outing for Eric Lauer, but one disastrous Daulton Varsho misread changed his day significantly.
He also deserves credit for eating a couple of innings after MIN's offensive explosion to keep the bullpen in a decent place.
Daulton Varsho had just 2 extra-base hits in his first 44 plate appearances, but he's got 3 in his last 6 - including his first two homers of the season.
The Blue Jays need more from the top of their lineup to get their run-scoring on track.
I looked at how concerned they should be about what they've seen from Springer, Varsho, and Vladdy so far: www.sportsnet.ca/mlb/article/...
The Blue Jays are a ways away from what you might call "good vibes", but that's a big win.
Dave Roberts saying Ohtani "sleeps an inordinate amount of time, it's his way of escaping the world" probably wasn't meant to sound unbelievably dark. But it's haunting stuff.
Really tough day at the office for Tyler Heineman, the day after Alejandro Kirk goes down.
Much of what's lost with Kirk is subtle, but there will be days when the drop off is pretty obvious, too.
When the bases are loaded, I'm not going to my option with the least power.
Before that outing, Little had faced 239 left-handed hitters in the majors and allowed 2 home runs.
Matching that total in one game shows how bad a state he's in right now.
Even though Brendon Little had some struggles in 2025, even at his worst, he usually kept the ball in the yard.
The southpaw just allowed as many home runs in that disastrous outing as he did during all of last regular season.
Vladdy missed a HR by a couple of feet in his last at-bat (370 feet), so he added 67 on that no-doubter.
I don't buy that the last two games - as rough as they've been - tell us much about the trajectory of the 2026 Blue Jays' season.
Alejandro Kirk missing a significant amount of time would be a game-changer.
The vast majority of the Blue Jays lineup may be struggling, but Andrés Giménez is picking up the slack with a 214 wRC+.
Blue Jays have been far too jumpy at the plate in this game with 47 swings on 77 pitches (61%).
Consistently behind and just battling instead of working the count and getting in position to do damage.
A little bit of tough luck for Dylan Cease as a jam shot infield hit comes around to score, but he's also just paying for spotty command today.
Far too many uncompetitive pitches way off the plate have led to a couple of walks and favourable counts for the White Sox.
George Springer has become such a smart base stealer late in his career. He's now 35-for-37 since the beginning of 2024.
It's too early to render firm judgments on the new members of the Blue Jays roster, but they've made some interesting first impressions:

This week @nickashbourne.bsky.social and I talk first impressions, Cody Ponce, Brendon Little, the Blue Jays bullpen, the players we chose in our recent Projected WAR Over/Under Draft, and more!

Jumping on the @sportsnet590thefan.bsky.social morning show to talk about a Blue Jays start that has been successful, but not always inspiring.
That game ends on a 108.3 mph liner with a .630 xBA. Vladdy ripped it, but to the wrong part of the park.
A 4-2 start is never a disaster, but dropping a series to the Rockies at home isn't pretty.
