Why? I'm the head guy at Thunderbird. Curious why that makes you feel like you have to switch off K-9? (We've been maintaining the app for years now).

Hopefully you feel like that's getting better. Which part is the worst offender?

What the Amish Can Teach Us About Technology The Amish don’t shun tech—they choose tools that serve their goals and values. By setting limits, and prioritizing relationships over convenience, they model a path for us. Asking “What do I want my d...

Can we learn something about how to use tech in a healthy way from... The Amish? I think we can.

AI as Normal Technology

Ultimately, it is a "normal" technology we can change for the better - if we engage. If we don't, it is destined to be everything we hate.

Join | Mozilla Data Collective Mozilla Data Collective is rebuilding the AI data ecosystem with communities at the centre.

(3/3) There is much to be done to improve the GenAI landscape.

To make it privacy-respecting. (I have a project looking at this)

To make it green (same project looking at this).

To use ethical training data (see datacollective.mozillafoundation.org)

(2/3) The Mozilla Corporation (which makes Firefox) is experimenting with ways to let their users try out different LLM providers. They are still building a safe and reliable browser.

Interesting read on this:

I understand what you are saying, but there are some nuances here I would like to share.

The original post is about the Mozilla Foundation doing something good in helping the California government have a thoughtful conversation about how and where it depoys generative AI.

All of what you call out are not the tech itself (LLMs), but what data the models are trained on and what their energy sources are.

We'd like to be engaged it moving AI to a better place. Not just complaining about it on the Internet.

Tech Cooperative? Been thinking about how the Thunderbird (Community) Council being involved in our business helps us avoid enshittification.

How could we turn that system into something that is more inclusive of all users? Been fascinated by how Coops (think REI) democratize the corporation.

"Big tech. The mainstream of tech is wired to harvest our creativity, to harvest our data, to harvest our money. Only to benefit a few people.

We can and must build a different kind of tech industry, that has humans in mind and shares the wealth with all of us"

"Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."

Mozilla is more than any group or product. It's the Rebel Alliance

A community working to make tech serve everyone, not just the shareholders of seven companies.

Technology should be more than a vehicle for profit. It should empower people to live more fulfilling lives. That's Mozilla's mission.
