Using Flamanville as the benchmark here is dishonest. A first-of-a-kind reactor built to a frankly idiotic design (the EPR) is not a fair compatison to nth-of-a-kind RE installations.

Also: Spain hasn't actually hit net zero yet. It's still at ~113g CO2/kWh (2025) www.nowtricity.com/country/spain/

Marco Chown Oved had an article in the National Observor yesterday – sorry, just realized this is in the Globe by a similar person – or maybe just a different pseudonym.
Anyway… I think the answer to the title is “yes”, and I don’t wish to defend OPG, but “in depth”…

‘ICE conveyor belt’ illegally detaining, moving Minnesota children to Texas faster than courts can respond ICE is pulling Minnesota immigrant families with legal status out of their driveways, homes and school commutes and send

ICE is running a “conveyor belt” of illegally detained Minnesota families.

Agents are arresting entire families with legal status and immediately shipping them off to Texas to deny them legal representation and avoid the federal courts in Minnesota.

The cruelty is endless.

Minnesotans sang outside the hotels where ICE and BP goons are staying, telling them it's not too late to change careers: "It's okay to change your mind. Show us your courage."

Let's talk about peak heating.
During winter storm Fern, Enbridge (the gas utility) has stated peak gas delivery was 90GWt. We had ~8GW of gas power (say ~15GWt consumption), and there is ~15GW of non-weather responsive gas demand, leaving ~60GWt peak weather responsive demand.

Yes! Not what the article title claims however.

So? The title of the article that prompted this thread claims that EV batteries can replace nuclear.

3 months ago 0 0 0 0

Sure. Or when RE is taking some time off, coal, natural gas or, if available as would be preferable, nuclear.

And even stuff built on site uses assemblies built in factories that Jigar claimed to be where the cost savings apply. We just have to stop changing assemblies so damn often.

Brussels plans to scrap 2035 combustion engine ban Carmakers will be allowed to make a limited number of petrol and diesel-fuelled cars after deadline

NEW: Final talks are still ongoing but we have it confirmed by officials that the EU will scrap its combustion engine ban and instead allow carmakers a small amount of emissions so long as they meet certain conditions such as using green steel

Obviously Norway is blessed with vast hydro resources and LCOE is a flawed and insufficient metric for measuring the value of different energy sources but interesting to see how a LLWR compares to offshore wind or SMRs. Would be nice to see what a full system cost estimate looks like for these.

The Canadian nuclear developer Atkins Realis is making a play to sell its pressurized heavy water CANDU reactors to the Philippines for a debut atomic power station.

The company just confirmed it’s in talks with Filipino utilities.

Ok, I raised the issue, but now let's talk about potential solutions.
One of the key things this example shows is there is no amount of in region wind overbuild that gets out of the issue. Multiply any huge install amount by 0 and still get 0.

Trump reshaped a climate program to extract more oil. This company stands to profit. Occidental Petroleum could benefit from bigger subsidies for using carbon dioxide to squeeze more crude from sputtering wells.

Republicans reshaped the carbon-capture tax credit such that it almost solely benefits companies that are ... drilling for oil.

We have a lot of work to do in Illinois. Our governor produced a list of housing reforms that he wanted back in December, and our general assembly failed to deliver a single one to his desk.

Could @nickforillinois.bsky.social be our Scott Wiener?
