I was genuinely inspired by Kirk Jones's "I Swear," which looks at the life of John Davidson, who went from being ostracized due to his Tourette Syndrome to being an activist for it. #Movies #Films #FilmSky

I’m watching “I Swear” tonight, which is a biopic about John Davidson, the man who said the n-word when MBJ and Delroy Lindo were on stage at the BAFTAs.
It’s not lost on me that a lot of people thinking critics slamming “Michael” because of bias would not give “I Swear” for the same reason.
On Thursday, the 50th #AtlantaFilmFestival begins. Read my curtain raiser to see what has my interest this year. #Movies #Films #FilmSky

It’s convoluted as Hell but so good.
I’ve seen a lot of posts about “Akira” recently, and…I think it’s time to revisit it.
It’s been ages. #Movies #Films #FilmSky
#RiseoftheConqueror, a historical epic offering from @wellgousa.bsky.social, is rousing enough, but doesn't really have much to offer beyond that. #Movies #Films #FilmSky

#Normal is Bob Odenkirk's latest action star turn. We've seen this type of thing before. It's fine. #Movies #Films #FilmSky

My curtain raiser piece will be up next week. This year I am back covering the Atlanta Film Festival. I have my in person tickets ordered, and am beginning to watch movies that I will not be able to catch in person.
More to come. #Movies #Films #FilmSky
"Things to Come" has staggering images, a story with many questions, and a unique perspective that resonates still. #Movies #Films #FilmSky

Someone standing tall amidst destruction
Up next in “Repertory Revue” is a 1930s adaptation of H.G. Wells’s “Things to Come,” which I’ve never seen. #Movies #Films #FilmSky
Myself and @bingemovies.bsky.social had one goal in our latest “Fascism in Cinema” discussion over at Sonic Cinema. Ok, more than one goal.
I cannot wait to share where that discussion led, and whether we met said goals.
I’m so grateful to be friends with Jason. #Movies #Films #FilmSky
Maybe it’s because “2049” added depth to Decker I felt was missing before, but yes, this film is vibing with me.
Other thoughts:
Vangelis’s score is probably one of the genre’s finest.
Douglas Trumbull really did work on another level when he did work, didn’t he? #Movies #Films #FilmSky
I’m rewatching “Blade Runner” in its Final Cut form for the first time since pre-“2049.”
I think this might be the most engaged in the narrative I’ve ever been with this film. Every other time I’ve watched it it’s felt at a distance. This time, the story is engrossing me completely. #Movies
I like when conservatives are clear that they regard things like workplace safety as “communism” bsky.app/profile/phil...
I feel like that attitude comes from the proliferation of billionaire “space tourism” flights over the past decade. Those are an absolute waste. NASA, which represents less than 1% of the budget, is not, and has given us much that has benefitted life on Earth over the years.
I’ll admit that I haven’t followed much of what NASA has been up to, but it’s been disheartening to see how many people view Artemis II’s launch yesterday as wasteful, and not having any benefit.
AFCC member Brian Skuttle (@sonic-cinema.bsky.social) reviews #TheDrama saying “The Drama” doesn’t back down- it’s probably the most cutting look at a relationship going through it since “Eyes Wide Shut.” sonic-cinema.com/wordpress/mo... #AFCC #MovieReview #ForTheLoveOfMovies
"The Drama" has a couple of great performances by Robert Pattinson and Zendaya, and a polarizing conceit at its center that is going to be a litmus test for audiences. #Movies #Films #FilmSky

The thriller, "Long Time Listener," is very predictable, and but I enjoyed this one. #Movies #Films #FilmSky

Picture of a woman looking at things.
Grieving my mother has been anything but a straight line. It really started years ago, as her memory began to deteriorate, and she became someone that was often not recognizable. When she passed a year ago, it was a bit of a shock, but also relief that her pain was done. I’m glad you’re at peace.
