2/ Het Vaticaan spreekt altijd met twee woorden: een kerkelijk en een diplomatiek woord. Dat is lastig idd. Soms denkt het via diplomatie achter de schermen meer te bereiken dan via openlijk spreken. Soms vreest het door openlijk spreken eigen gelovigen in een land in gevaar te brengen. Ingewikkeld!
1/ Dat zijn twee interessante vragen inderdaad. Het (nieuwe) antwoord op de eerste vraag is volgens mij nog niet uitgekristalliseerd. Bovendien: is "aanvallen" toegestaan als onderdeel van de verdediging? Zie wat Israël in Libanon doet en in Gaza deed onder het mom van verdediging.
Augustinus was de bedenker van de leer van de ‘rechtvaardige oorlog’. Je zou verwachten dat de pragmatische Leo XIV - Amerikaan en augustijn - zich minder pacifistisch zou opstellen dan Franciscus - Argentijn en idealist. Het tegendeel lijkt het geval.
