Also the bigger question, Why in the first place? Never actually heard a reasoning for mandelsons appointment have we
Starmer is caught in exactly the same trap Boris Johnson got himself caught up in: his excuse for his initial decision was false.
And then as problems pile up with the last excuse, you need a new excuse. And eventually you just pule yourself into a corner where you're talking nonsense.
Labour whips’ “lines to to take” sent to MPs for Keir Starmer’s statement.
Already getting messages from Labour MPs stunned that Epstein abuse victim is being used to attack Peter Mandelson.

If you’ve read the thread posted by palantir on X and are shocked, please read this piece that @tlecaque.bsky.social and I wrote 9 months ago. Palantir has not been shy about its fascist agenda, and neither has Karp, who has been rambling about Western Supremacy in text & video form for a while now
Not a comment on the specific issues involved, but not sure the Constitutional Reform and Governance Act can really be described as "obscure" as per Playbook this morning.
It's a pretty significant area of legislation in many areas and was only passed in 2010!
I really hate the - honestly very right wing - framing that it is somehow good to constantly be shocked and offended. This is simply not how the real world works *or should be expected to work*
In the era of "we must exclude trans people from playing sport, for Fairness" it's actually quite sickening for various media outlets to be all "check out out, a ROBOT won a marathon!"
All the human-in-the-loop bullshit assumes the human is a constant, unaffected by the loop. In reality, the loop is making the human stupider, lazier, and more careless.

An all-time classic entry in the hall of fame 'does the person saying this realise how damning it is?' quotes:
I am shocked, shocked that Farage is pals with this 27 year old American Christofascist who is trying to dictate UK and EU policy not so much with his fists but with his snotty little nose.
Who could have predicted this?
(We all predicted this)
the thing about our current moment is that yes, the anti-AI and anti-big tech people are getting very reactive nowadays - but have you seen what they’re *reacting* to?
Palantir put out the most cartoonishly evil statement possible. They’re so arrogant and self-confident they don’t seem to believe their fascistic plans can be opposed.
We must get rid of Palantir altogether.

Nah not just a shitpost, i stand by this.
Wouldn't it be great if the UK was part of a bloc which distributed large amounts of money to encourage digital sovereignty? We should check out how to join!

Headline from The Guardian: Traders placed over $1 billion in perfectly timed bets on the Iran war. What is going on?
Yeah geez weird impossible to know I guess
Feminists for ages: we are not just vaginas and baby making parts.
A trans woman enters the room.
Those same feminists: we are only vaginas and baby making parts.
Fucking clowns.
Thanks to @chrisn.xyz and @eddavey.libdems.org.uk for this. It's been a hard year, and we have work to do. But we're in the fight, and we're proud that the @libdems.org.uk are in it with us. Trans rights are human rights. 🧡🏳️⚧️
You always get a lot of angry replies here if you complain about the Greens blocking solar farms or power grid upgrades. Maybe they should stop instigating pile-ons and start instigating pylons.
"While the party is traditionally in favour of renewables, she said she was opposed to "industrial scale energy infrastructure schemes"…"

Today’s The Times Scotland front page with the top story “Cherry: SNP made me ashamed so I quit party”
Hey the Times, I quit a political party over trans issues and have a book to promote, can I have a front page spread?
Oh, that’s only reserved for transphobes and not trans people? Never mind.
I am never leaving this website
Thr South Korean president criticized Israel, Israel got super mad about the mention of the Holocaust, and not the far worse reference. The president compared them to imperial Japan, which is like the worst thing a Korean can call anyone or anything www.theverge.com/policy/91358...
I wonder how many people will end up getting fired to maintain the artificd that Keir Starmer didn't know who Peter Mandelson was when he gave him a prominent public service job.
Reminds me of when Sunak tried to fob off the betting scandal by calling for an independent investigation to figure out who was in the room with him when he decided on the election date.
Holding lines which hold less water than tissue paper insult the intelligence of those they try to fob off.
I've always found the framing around men and women's dating choices re political "opponents" really telling. Men are supposedly more tolerant - but for the most part they're not being asked to date people who literally view them as second-class citizens undeserving of bank accounts and voting rights
Are we really going to hold a public inquiry into whether doing the vetting after the prime minister publicly announces the appointment is a bad idea?
Keir Starmer was furious Mandelson lied to pass vetting. Now he's furious to discover Mandelson didn't pass vetting after all.
Previously, he's been furious to find out there was a toxic culture in his own office. What will he be furious about next?
