I wonder if this manner (or maybe appearance) of depthlessness is significantly an effect of the increasing speed of popular culture. There’s little time for more local or regional stuff to sink into itself before it spreads out via the ebbs and flows and turbulence of the larger field.

Not only a US pattern, of course. Not to mention that world wealth, like the world economy, is warped by the US, as well. Overtime for a reset.

The Containment-Liberation Complex U.S. interventions have had disastrous consequences.

“Between 1898 and 1994, Washington effectively acted to change governments in Latin America at least 41 times, a tally that includes neither many unsuccessful efforts at regime change nor the invasions, filibustering, and gunboat diplomacy that took place the previous century.“

Was Trump (who probably doesn’t give a shit otherwise) trying to somehow active this tension by heaping praise on Mamdani?

Strikes me as parallel with the neoliberal version of DEI initiatives: valuable and necessary stuff being absorbed and implemented in status quo reinforcing ways. I suppose it might also track with the entrepreneurial professionalization of supposedly critical ideas. But I struggle with cynicism.

Very online right wing libertarians & manosphere podcast fans are perhaps realizing that the Donald actually is a threat to their freedoms, maybe? If I was Trump, I’d get Patel to (quietly) restart surveillance of domestic terrorism. The left is never going to storm the capital & everyone knows it.

Maybe he enjoys the suffering, and finds the ending comical? No irony needed.

When We Are All Enemies of the State - Boston Review A recently discovered 1974 speech by Stuart Hall on Walter Rodney—and why fascists fear ideas.

"Today the legacies of both Hall and Rodney demonstrate the imperative of organic intellectuals to confront authoritarian nationalism and forge global solidarity."

There seemed to be a loosely coordinated gang up on big, bad universities, especially for Weinstein, with you as the oddly chosen punching bad. They jumping a bandwagon here? They seeing the insane turn against science and the university system and want to get in on that attention action, too? Odd.

The more I think about it, the more I wonder when you’d received this invitation. Morgan and Weinstein seem to be friendly acquaintances, if not friends. But it’s clear they share a pattern of grievance mongering that is more anti-woke than consistently conservative. 1/2

Wow! That was incredibly frustrating, and I think a waste of your time. Both Morgan and Weinstein were aggressively patronizing. But I suppose that’s their schtick. Weinstein was also so petty and pedantic. Super lame. Anyway… Keep up the good work otherwise, just elsewhere.

They want their own domestic ‘third world’ manufacturing base (fully racialized, of course) to go along with all the private prisons. Great synergy potential, too.
