So this is really technically cool, right? Also pretty much completely useless.
(not much else to discuss in the world right now, still just Liquid Glass)
No big deal, Broth-er
Mario's Heads: An Apology Earlier today, I have posted about Mario in Super Mario 64 having dedicated head meshes for each eye texture, which are swapped out for each other whenever he needs to blink. Despite having an expert dataminer explain this to me, the post was based on my misunderstanding. There are merely different assembly instructions for the head, which swap out the texture and use the same data for the rest. It is basically just a different form of texture swapping, and representing it as three separate heads was not a good visualization. I am not a programmer, but making posts about programming often requires me to try to simplify very complex processes to present the information. And sometimes, despite trying my best to understand the information, my best is simply not good enough. All I can do is to check with more experts before posting such facts in the future. My deepest apologies.
I am terribly sorry.
Beautifully hacky stuff from the best in the industry
One of the hardest things to get across to most software people with great intentions is *how strong defaults are* and how tired everyone else is of dorking around trying to get things to work, but this understanding is the thing that made Apple, for all its many flaws, such a giant.
Exactly the same result here!
Wait. You can just say "we might infringe on your rights" in your Terms Of Service?

Huge result here - the idea that social platforms can be defective products that cause harm is going to send shockwaves through an industry that has claimed essentially blanket protection from liability by saying everything is speech

Really sad that Play is closing down. Nothing else quite like it for iOS prototyping createwithplay.com/play-update-2
Because I am old, I've been through a version of this discourse ~11 times, but here's the rub: everyone goes through a phase of needing to intellectualise their enjoyment of video games. Eventually you arrive at a point of giving no fucks. A lot of games *aren't* thematically deep. Enjoy them anyway
+1 to everything Karl is saying here. And also:
The *logic* of the metaverse press coverage in 2021-22 was, “there is SO MUCH money and SO MUCH engineering talent pointed at this stuff that it is bound to amount to something.”
That’s facially reasonable, so it gets repeated every time.
Headline: "At SXSW, Mark Zuckerberg says metaverse is 'Holy Grail' of social experience"
I don't really feel like the press coverage of the metaverse implosion honestly captures the access tech press' role in propping up Mark Zuckerberg's fake innovation mythology
if you go back and read "journalism" from this era, 97% was indistinguishable from advertorial

The deuterocanonical period was a roughly four-century stretch where no prophets emerged and God revealed nothing new to the Jewish people. Now, I can't say for certain that the almighty was too busy welding a pickaxe to a wheelchair in his garden shed, however

Okay let’s!

What's funny is that we know from generations of experiments that human memory is ridiculously, cartoonishly malleable.
People manipulating their pictures like this are literally fucking with their memories. They will remember that event differently, because of the meddling afterwards.
Not a PM, but just in case you’d still like comments… this is great! Such a good combination of quick to see and understand AND proper good depth.
