References to media from the main population of english speakers makes it a lot more relatable. It brings more life to characters especially if they speak with slang.
Localization adds so much to stories that it helps emphasize characters. Exhibit A. Chainsaw man english dub. I love both jp and eng dubs but the eng va's screaming nuts or nothing or just in general adding their own bits are really funny.
