A cult is a specific type of endogroup. The same structure can scale down to two people or up to the world and be based on anything at all – common dominant endogroups today are more likely to be based on wealth, knowledge, health, age, official status, sex, ‘race’ however, that is defined, etc.

Traditionally a cult had a very different meaning which is why it shares a root with the word culture. but with the word cult the way it is used today, yes, that’s a specific type of endogroup. The same structure can scale all the way down to two people or all the way up to the world.

Endogroups are a structure that is used as an emergency power for defence in social groupings. The social/emotional/cognitive functioning of people in endogroups changes according to their roles. Endogroups were never intended to be permanent structures, but now they are.
