Madpig: A true heir to The Shaggs — every off-beat somehow resolves in the next line, like chaos finding its own rhythm. #FomalhautListens

It’s been one year since Daughter of the Sky took flight. A tribute to women fighter pilots — to the sky, to courage, to freedom. We’re happy to share a special recording moment: our dear friend, renowned jazz bassist Liu Ao, contributing his bass and guitar lines!

Scar Symmetry brought polished Swedish-style melodeath with a hint of pop sheen. Spotless performance—dual guitar solos were flawless, and the two vocalists handled clean/growl duties with ease. But... no bassist on stage? Something felt missing. 😂 #progmetalmania

Progressive doom band Poem from Greece—tight, mature, and emotionally powerful vocals. Complex polyrhythmic sections added a true prog flair. One of my favorite acts across both days of the festival. #progmetalmania

Relentless double kicks and walls of guitar—Xaon is full-blast blackened death metal with some symphonic touches. The vocalist kept the crowd moshing. The closer song ends on a folky twist, with clean vocals that hit surprisingly deep. #progmetalmania

Turbulence is a prog metal band from Lebanon with beautifully crafted and balanced structures. Middle Eastern elements are tastefully woven in—especially in the vocals. A modern, subtler take on fusion than Myrath or Orphaned Land. #progmetalmania

Aeons, from the Isle of Man, brought tight melodic death-infused prog metal. Top-tier growls, heavy groove, and nostalgic dual-guitar melodies. Huge thanks to @progmetalmania for correcting my mix-up with Sweden’s Aeon—oops! 😂

Soulsplitter was my absolute favorite of the fest! Cinematic prog metal with sweeping forms, expressive contrasts, lush vocals, impressionist piano, classical elements, and stunning musicianship. Their new single preview "Algorithm" is phenomenal! #progmetalmania

John Macaluso appeared as a special guest with his Off the Record project—a powerful drummer with finesse, telling a rhythmic autobiography. A few onstage hiccups only added to the charm. Maybe lightness is a drummer’s greatest strength! #progmetalmania

A traditional German prog metal band with a distinctly refined sound. The vocals were deep and elegant (when not screaming)—carrying that stereotypical “German” character in both tone and delivery.

Obsidious: A band spun off from Obscura, and still, firmly in the tech-death realm. The guitars had that classic tight-yet-complex tone, filled with intricate runs and sweeping melodies. The bass even got some solid solo moments—great stuff!

F.K.Ü. was anything but prog—pure, classic thrash! 🤘 With heavy horror-movie-style makeup, soaring high-pitched vocals, nonstop pogoing and circle pits, and non-stop “hey hey hey!” energy, it was chaos in the best possible way. Total fun!

Vulkan's grooves weren’t punchy in the usual sense—they swayed like waves across complex polymetric layers, letting you feel the rhythm differently depending on where you lock in. As someone drawn to non-English prog metal vocals, the moment they played a track in Swedish, I was instantly hooked.

The vibe finally turned darker—Vulkan was one of the my favorite bands of the fest! More post than prog: sorrowful vocals, intricate 3-part harmonies , dramatic tempo shifts, and guitars that avoid traditional tones with textures and walls of sound.

#progmetalmania Loch Vostok: their vocal was classic and stylized—maybe a bit too “old-school”—but solid. The overall sound leans toward melodic death or thrash, with that distinct Swedish flavor.

#progmetalmania : Kicking off with a hometown band from Munich! Jester's Tears is more power metal than prog, with occasional hints of classical flair. I even caught shades of some Japanese power metal. The vocalist had great energy and stage presence!
