I saw your comments to another colleague, but if you wouldn't mind writing up a paragraph or so with what you're looking for and sending it to me via DM or email, that would be great--I'd rather share the request in your words so it's more precise.

My aunt is a professor emerita of African History with a focus on Nigerian history and the Yoruba. I could potentially send her an email to ask her if she would have any leads, if that would be of interest?
Crushing read from our friends at @propublica.org, republished by the Reformer: The children of Dilley minnesotareformer.com/2026/02/25/t...

1/ ProPublica collected handwritten letters in mid-January from children held at the Dilley Immigration Processing Center, the same facility where 5-year-old Liam Conejo Ramos was taken.
Hundreds of kids are still detained.
We’ll let the children’s words speak for themselves. 🧵
Commentary: The anti-ICE movement isn’t just about politics — it’s a caregiving social movement minnesotareformer.com/2026/01/30/t...
Every social theory undergirding Trumpism has been broken on the steel of Minnesotan resolve. The multiracial community in Minneapolis was supposed to shatter. It did not. It held until Bovino was forced out of the Twin Cities with his long coat between his legs. The secret fear of the morally depraved is that virtue is actually common, and that they’re the ones who are alone. In Minnesota, all of the ideological cornerstones of MAGA have been proved false at once. Minnesotans, not the armed thugs of ICE and the Border Patrol, are brave. Minnesotans have shown that their community is socially cohesive—because of its diversity and not in spite of it. Minnesotans have found and loved one another in a world atomized by social media, where empty men have tried to fill their lonely soul with lies about their own inherent superiority. Minnesotans have preserved everything worthwhile about “Western civilization,” while armed brutes try to tear it down by force.
Last week in Minnesota, I watched ordinary people risk their lives to protect their neighbors. In the process, they not only won a significant—though not final—victory against authoritarianism, they proved virtually every MAGA social theory wrong. (gift link) www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

How embarrassing--I seem to have sent them to an entirely different person! Will try again.
I sent you some via DM.
Tens of thousands of Minnesotans marched in downtown Minneapolis Friday in a negative 30 degree windchill to protest the federal government’s continuing surge of immigration enforcement.
I did a search and found several good videos in Spanish that have information that is relevant and useful for folks in MN although they weren't made in/for MN specifically; can share if desired.
(bona fides: interpreter and professor of interpreting/translation, from STP)
And I'll have a go with the Spanish and Italian subtitles to see what happens, now that we're Doing Science. :)
Can this Love be Translated?
I'm watching with the original audio (as far as I know; I could double check that) and English subititles.
It would be an interesting test to see if the subtitles show something different to you watching from Europe, or what the French subtitles say.
I don't understand Korean or Japanese, so I can't really judge. I can follow the story just fine, and it has about the same number of 'that sounds odd' subtitles as the other Korean shows I've watched on Netflix in past.
It's a show about an interpreter; I'd hope they had human subtitlers.
.... to see the first line of Korean dialogue after a stretch of Japanese labelled as "in English:"
Also the subtitles informed us that a reporter speaks Mandarin, but in the original audio I'm listening to, the reporter speaks English.
I wanna read a paper analyzing this show and its subtitles.
For me, at least, it's mostly hilarious, but it could be confusing. One main character is an interpreter and a big part of the show hinges on interpreted dialogue, so it's fairly clear from context when the characters switch languages (mostly between Japanese and Korean), but it is weird...
Hm, wonder if this is somehow connected to the fact that the English subtitles of the multilingual Korean show I'm currently watching keep indicating that lines of dialogue are in different languages than the characters are actually speaking.

Hundreds of Twin Cities high school students walked out Monday to protest ICE operations in Minnesota. Some schools are reporting 30% drops in attendance as families fear leaving their homes, with districts pausing field trips and offering virtual learning options.
Know Your Rights graphic explaining what to do if immigration agents come to your home. It states that ICE needs a judge-signed warrant to enter, people do not have to open the door, can ask to see a warrant through a window or under the door, and can keep the door closed if there is no valid judge-signed warrant. This week has been incredibly heavy for all of us. I wanted to share some thoughts, reflections, and actions we’re taking to stand up to this unprecedented incursion into our city.
Please know you are not alone. We are fighting back.
I invite all Americans to join Minnesota in a day of unity tomorrow.
Hey, a quick hint for anyone trying to follow the news in Minneapolis from out of state: if you add ?utm_source=gift to any Star Tribune URL, it'll let you read it.

Hundreds gathered Wednesday night at the site where 37-year-old Renee Good was shot and killed by an ICE agent earlier in the day. Mourners shared stories and remembrances while urging unity in opposition to ICE's presence in Minneapolis.
