Turns out many people didn't know Apparance proc-gen is FULLY RUN-TIME! Got so many great comments after co-presenting a talk at Everything Procedural Conference last week about "Pattern Zero", a new FPS featuring novel destruction mechanics, from Backpain Games. :) #ProcGen #RunTime #GameDev

Brilliant thread on presentations at Everything Procedural. So much great stuff.
Recently I got invited to join the new Godot UX team. When I have time I will be helping testing editor PRs and make Godot more usable for everyone.
What are some of the most annoying things about Godot UI/UX that you think need attention?
Image: "Godot's GitHub has increasingly many pull requests generated by LLMs and it's a MASSIVE time waster for reviewers – especially if people don't disclose it. Changes often make no sense, descriptions are extremely verbose, users don't understand their own changes… It's a total shitshow. #godotengine"
Many people have said it before, but here's further proof: a future with AI programming tools seems to be a future where all the open source ends up FUBAR
(because numptys who don't really understand what their IDE has generated for them...)
Indie game devs be like

My 2025 talk 'Gyms, Zoos, and Museums: Your documentation should be in-game' is now also available in text format, for those who like to read instead of watch: rystorm.com/blog/gyms-zo...
And if you haven't seen it yet, there is an all new video too, with bonus material on the history of Zoos!
A video on gyms, zoos and museums! A must-watch by @rystorm.com for any indie out there. Goes into why you should choose different ways of documentation sometimes, learned a lot myself!

I just hate it when people get duped by thinking computers are magic because computers are so fucking stupid and the mystique around them is perpetuated by evil grifters
I've released an asset pack containing essentials, it's 10kb with default UV texture and < 1kb without so please game engine makers: include this by default.
(Open for suggestions to add more!)

you're not gonna believe it 🤯
Such an incredible piece of television. After all the established rules about ships and FTL and everything, this was the most batshit crazy thing to do. Such an intense moment, no idea what was going to happen. The visual effects really helped sell it being a huge gamble using FTL in the atmosphere.

Having so more game in my backlog than I could ever hope to clear certainly doesn't help with playing the latest games. I finally started on the latest God Of War and finished Doom 2016 this year 😬 I have found myself buying more smaller new games than usual this year though.
Sadly it looks like there's almost no element of Carmageddon's DNA in the game. The closes circuits, guns, grimdark post apocalyptic aesthetic and lack of whacky personality and humour is the antithesis of what made Carmageddon great 😢
I feel that. Steam Deck has helped a lot with being able to play though some of my never ending backlog, but there's still so many games which I just lack the mental energy of an evening to invest in, which feels sad.
Being a non-tiktok using millennial, reading posts on the modern internet constantly feels like the commenters are in a perpetual state of realisation about something when they're actually just been conditioned by capitalism to mispell ass.
It beggars belief that they could speed run the "do a thing -> want to replace doing the thing with something which requires infinitely less skill, knowledge, experience and creativity" process so fast as this. Even just basic criteria to roll the dice against is too much for them 😬
I can’t get over how much using Godot in 2025 feels like using Unity in 2010. Common sense memory.
If there was one thing I would add to the PS5 game library UI (or any other platform for that matter!) it would be the ability to filter based on if it has local multiplayer. After years of PS+ my library is large & checking if a game can be played coop means drilling down two levels. Such a faff.
