First metaresearch crowd review in 💪
We would like to thank the ASAPbio Crowd Preprint Review Leads for their incredible work!
Jay Patel, @fallonmody.bsky.social, @grinschglsandra.bsky.social, @debrajmanna27.bsky.social, Emmanuel Odame, and Joseph P. Biggane lead the Crowds that collaboratively and openly review preprints!
An amazing project - I was very happy to contribute at least a little bit to it!
Still doesn't work for me. Clicking on this link osf.io/request-acce..., it says permission required
Whoopwhoop our lab will be growing even more 🤩
Our research group in Bern has been awarded two @snsf.ch project grants! We will hire a number of new postdocs and PhD students.
Congratulations to @jamiecummins.bsky.social @malte.the100.ci and @ndevito1.bsky.social whose project deepens the links between @bennettoxford.bsky.social and @unibe.ch
Habilitation @unibe.ch: completed ✔️
Energy level: apparently still enough for the next talk in a few days
🔬 We're looking for German-speaking PhDs and Postdocs of all fields for a study!
Together with a master student, we have a project on well-being among early career researchers. As we want to reach at least 260 people across Austria, Germany, and Switzerland, we need your help. More info in 🇩🇪 ⬇️
Come work with us in beautiful Bern! 🐻
Qualtrics is getting too expensive and our institute is considering switching to another survey software.
What can you recommend?
Needs to be user friendly, have reasonable support, handle similar features to Qualtrics, and be cheaper.

New paper, on a worrying trend in meta-science: the practice of anonymising datasets on, e.g., published articles. We argue that this is at odds with norms established in research synthesis, explore arguments for anonymisation, provide counterpoints, and demonstrate implications and epistemic costs.
Bin schon gespannt auf beides! Bis später und morgen!
Comparing registrations to published papers is essential to research integrity - and almost no one does it routinely because it's slow, messy, and time-demanding.
RegCheck was built to help make this process easier.
Today, we launch RegCheck V2.

Here, we start the process towards global random sampling. We can't fully get there, but we can make steps. Our framework:
Cluster random sampling, proportional weighting, BTS, nonresponse bias correction.

Voluntary retraction remains a key way to put scientific self-correction into practice. Zhu and Holmes (2024) did the right thing when they realized that some of their results were based on a coding error.

Can large language models stand in for human participants?
Many social scientists seem to think so, and are already using "silicon samples" in research.
One problem: depending on the analytic decisions made, you can basically get these samples to show any effect you want.
THREAD 🧵
I was thrilled to be invited to contribute to a forthcoming special issue for The Psychologist magazine called "Psychology needs a ... revolution".
I wrote about AI and its use in psychology: particularly how we can learn lessons from the past to avoid repeating old mistakes.

Today in "did we take this joke too far?":
@malte.the100.ci @grinschglsandra.bsky.social and I will jointly teach two lecture series this year:
Psychology of Digitalisation: Everything is Computer
Digitalisation of Psychology: Computer is Everything
(really)
Also, new lab logo
I wrote an R package that creates standardized R project structures that are compliant with @mekline.bsky.social's psych-DS...ish.
It also creates additional features for reproducibility and teaching like a readme, license, .gitignore and Quarto templates
+ can validate existing projects
I’m in! Please share. This is a small ask where if enough people come together we can fight those who are trying to disrupt a valuable platform
Check out this cool new package which I will likely also use for my "R u Ready" data wrangling and analyses class. 🐖
🤓In an interview for the @nzz.ch, I presented my perspective on the idea of "AI making us stupid" 🤖: www.nzz.ch/technologie/...
Thanks to the @improvingpsych.org team for the great conference in beautiful (and very hot) Budapest #SIPS2025
