Middle-aged (why do I always start my description with that?) man with short blond/gray hair and beard, wearing a yellow shirt and navy bow tie, holding up a copy of the book "Dead in the Kitchen," the Official Grateful Dead Cookbook, by Gabi Moskovwitz.
Out today: "Dead in the Kitchen." A vegetarian cookbook for Deadheads. By Gabi Moskowitz, with a foreword by @molliekatzen.bsky.social, and a recipe dedicated to Steve Silberman (spring green minestrone). Can't wait to explore it.

It was such an honor to write and so special to get to honor Steve. Thank you so much, @wardqnormal.bsky.social, for being part of the process ❤️❤️❤️

I miss when my biggest worry during a Costco trip was “will the kids like this snack for long enough to warrant this giant container?” and not “is this enough toothpaste for the apocalypse?”

Right next to the about the author and acknowledgments pages in the back of my books, I would like to have photos of the various art projects and LEGO sets I helped my children with while writing them, along with little ratings of how patient I was (or wasn't) while parenting on a deadline.

Chemo Stole My Dad's Hearing. Then, My Daughter Heard Her First Sound.
Our family’s circular journey through cochlear implants, loss, and vibrations.
My husband wrote a beautiful essay for @modernloss.bsky.social, about this past Rosh Hashanah, when his father died, and our daughter, a recent cochlear implant recipient, heard the shofar for the first time modernloss.com/chemo-stole-...

Dear manager, please find a review of the past week's activity:
1) hammered in the morning
2) hammered in the evening
3) hammered out danger
4) hammered out a warning
5) hammered out love between my brothers and my sisters, all over this land

I feel like doing something "gingerly" should mean doing it in a way that is nice, but a liiiiittle bit spicy if you're sensitive.

It isn’t really a steamer, so probably not, but worth a try!

If you need break from doomscrolling, allow me to share that today, while I was folding laundry, my 3-year-old held up a pair of my husband’s boxer briefs and asked where we should put “Daddy’s bottom panties”

Warning: keep this battery away from children. Don’t bother with a high shelf in a locked closet or anything, though. Just hold it above their heads as they leap in the air attempting to grab it—famously the most effective way to ensure a kid loses all interest in a dangerous item.

It's kind of like how an air fryer provides convenience even though it does the same thing an oven does. Being able to make tortillas while I taco meat, beans, and rice simmer on the stove or flip dosas at the counter while curry, dal, and rice does its thing is so nice.

From dosas to fresh tortillas (or warming up cold ones from the fridge), to grilled cheese and quesadillas, pancakes, homemade english muffins--basically anything that needs a hot, flat surface.

Obviously, it makes great crepes. I've recently become a sourdough person, and my kids have been enjoying a lot of sourdough discard pancakes and waffles. Sourdough crepes are so easy and so good. But it does SO much more.

My husband gave me an electric crepe maker for Hanukkah, and I must admit that at first, I was dubious. I usually avoid single use tools, and don't exactly have tons of extra storage for an appliance the size of a large Roomba. But to my surprise, it turned out to be the kitchen tool I was missing.

Hear me out: make Marcella Hazan's iconic tomato sauce w/ onion and butter, but instead of discarding the onion, puree the sauce & onion in the blender (or use an immersion blender in the pot). Maybe not traditional, but it's the most velvety, delicious thing you've ever poured over spaghetti.

A lesser but still notable Hanukkah miracle is when one shampoo is enough to successfully rid your hair of the smell of eight hours of frying latkes
