Combined with traumas I experienced in my 20s and early 30s, a real doozy! No way to heal or make progress. Just Sisyphus pushing the bolder up the hill every month. And I KNOW it was PMDD because when my uterus was removed, it was literally an “off” switch for this.

Lost a big chunk of my adult life to this and didn’t even realize it at the time. Spiraling into self-destructive and self-harming behaviors, withdrawing and isolating, impulsive and destructive rage, constant suicidal thoughts. This would abate for ~1 week per month.

Cannot overstate how damaging and life-destroying PMDD is. It’s not like, “aww take a midol and eat some ice cream sweaty :)”. It’s a SEVERE and debilitating mood disorder that absolutely disrupts daily life and relationships. www.iapmd.org/pmdd

Although there are several effective treatments for PMDD, lives are lost when these conditions go unrecognized or ignored by doctors. Up to 51% of people with PMDD engage in self-harm, 72% experience suicidal ideation, and 34% will attempt suicide at some point because of their PMDD symptoms.

People with PMDD shouldn't have to suffer in silence, but many do. So, please help me this April by raising awareness about premenstrual disorders.
