This is all moving very quickly, and across different networks, so "standards" are going to be in flux and mutate for a while, especially leaning into per-protocol affordances.

App store talking. we are number one. threads is number two. nothing else needs to be said.
We are the number one app in the United States. I repeat. We are the number one app in the United States.

How are you using this platform vs Twitter and other social platforms?
What bird app content do you wish there was more of here?
hey :) I think users deserve to have a choice over how they participate in social - what kinds of things they want to see and what their algorithm is.
as in wine enthusiasts sharing their favorite wines? 😂

I don’t think bluesky’s brand is currently “non nazis” but far more specific than that
Because theres strong network effects - 2nd biggest networks usually die
that is if bluesky can disassociate the brand that is currently stuck to it, which is hard.
This might be an unpopular opinion, but…
It seems somewhat problematic to me that bluesky is becoming associated with a specific political view, whether intentional or not.
The biggest social networks thrive by facilitating many communities rather than polarizing to only some
I think it theoretically is - as a developer you can get all the content fairly easily
What happens if your PDS goes down?
A reminder that bluesky is built on top of an open protocol, called at protocol.
This means that other developers are able to theoretically permissionlessly build apps to compete with bluesky, utilizing the same data and usernames without having to worry about an API being shut down
Nascent social networks have evolving & potentially fragile cultures.
Replying to trolls gives them distribution - imo the best response is no response
protocols need human interfaces - bluesky is the first interface for at protocol. There will be many.
search for it in the Mac App Store
FYI you can use the bluesky app on your Mac if you have a Mac with apple silicon
What are you hoping to get out of participating on social networks like Bluesky?
Curious what the sentiment around blockchains & crypto is in these parts.
Any strong opinions?
Sorry for earnestposting, but, with all the people reminiscing about how they *actually got hired* from Twitter, just testing this out for Bluesky—
Hi, I’m looking for work ATM. I have a background in plant bio/ecology/modeling/ML/remote sensing, interested in climate tech or ag tech.
What are you excited for?
bluesky is built on top of an open protocol (at protocol) which guarantees that users are free to choose between apps - based on their preferences around how each app handles censorship, moderation, feeds or even design.
This should lead to more consumer choice and better experiences long term
