Since the British workhouse nearly 200 years ago, shelters and in the US and UK have largely been based on the principle of "less eligibility"--that conditions of public assistance should be the worst alternative.

The benchmark demonstrated in this thread flips that. And it's wonderful to see.

The benchmark for shelter design should be simple: would you be happy to live here?

ft.: trauma informed design principles, a new Lincoln ave mural, separate motel style rooms and bathrooms for all residents, an all electric systems w/ 35 kw array / BeeS system (can function off the grid in perpetuity in the summer, up to 24+ hours in the winter), mid mod inspired design and more!

Chicagoans: ever wonder how your ward handles rat complaints after spotting one too many furry critters running about??

I turned 50,000+ 311 requests into a live, auto-updating dashboard. Every ward gets a grade!!

Ironworkers new Broadview training facility is a glassy, bold roadside attraction Built along I-290, the training center was designed with a certain grace and beauty that's worth the gapers' block it might cause.

Excited to see the Ironworkers Local 63 extension featured in the @chicago.suntimes.com by @leebey1.bsky.social Check it out here: chicago.suntimes.com/architecture...

Opinion: Want more affordable housing? Start by ending parking mandates. Chicago’s iconic two- and three-flats are at risk. Reforming parking mandates could help preserve them and expand affordable housing across the city.

valid concern about the thermal bridge. Always surprised to see the IMI has continuous stone sills back to storefront on their standard details.

I never draw my masonry ties in hand sketches assumed that was there.
