And here I am popping onto Bluesky because Threads got unhinged today. I think I’m going to just crawl under a rock now.

I saw your newsletter this morning and it gave me the biggest smile because my son also went on one of Dr Shiffman’s shark tagging trips a few years ago!

Before that trip, we met and talked with him at an event in CA. Great guy and an amazing advocate for marine science.

Tom Stoppard, Award-Winning Playwright of Witty Drama, Dies at 88

I met Tom Stoppard at the 2013 WGA. He was so patient as I gushed my love for his writing all over him, finally patting my hand, saying “that’s nice dear” before walking off.

RIP you delightful man.

Lovely! I’m intrigued with the hexagonal pie pan. I’ve never seen that before (and I bake a lot of pies)

Making the cranberry sauce, when I was 12 yo, was my first ever contribution to a Thanksgiving dinner. I still love to make it.

Yay! I was able to find it on bookshop.org too, so ordered myself a copy just now. Looks so good!

Watching everything this administration is doing right now, I’m starting to realize the government shutdown is a feature, not a bug for them.

Simply an excuse to remove the (nominal) oversight of the congressional branch while the executive does whatever it wants.

I think the biggest argument for getting that sort of thing right is just how much it takes the reader out of the story when there are errors they recognize. Especially job related

Nothing is such a perfect snapshot of the state of our union due to the shutdown than to watch the Canadian and British air forces stand in for the U.S. Navy and Air Force at the Huntington Beach Air Show.

the sweet, spicy romcom Her Knight at the Museum by Bryn Donovan, on a Kindle, with a pumpkin and a pumpkin spice latte, $1.99

I think today is the last day to buy this sweet, cozy, spicy, romcom novel, set in Chicago, for only $1.99 on Kindle! You can’t buy a pumpkin spice latte for that. 😊 Read it before it becomes a Hallmark movie! amzn.to/4mHob3u

The "AI" responses that Google gives about me and my work are consistently error-prone, which I know because I am me. If I know Google's "AI" responses give incorrect answers about things I know about, I can't trust it to give correct answers about things I don't know. So, no, I don't use it.

This one absolutely guts me. I’m literally crying right now. She was my idol growing up. The icon she was for women in STEM and the force she was for conservation cannot be overstated.

May she wander in forests of discovery forever. 💔

If you depend on your racial identity to make you feel superior, rather than the content of your character, of course you are going to try to silence anything that contradicts that false superiority.

But the kicker is, you’re still rotten inside and that’s the story history will tell.

It’s very clear that the advancement of civil rights in the U.S. was the main driver of the current anti-democratic, anti-science, anti-free speech “conservative” movement.
