The oligarch from Etobicoke. Time to send him packing.

“Once more, let me remind you what fascism is. I need not wear a brown shirt or a green shirt. Fascism begins the moment a ruling class, fearing the people may use their political democracy to gain economic democracy, begins to destroy political democracy in order to retain its power of exploitation and special privilege.” ~ Tommy Douglas A black and white photo of Douglas, wearing glasses and standing in front of a microphone, raising his right arm and fist into the air.

Trump states this morning that his war on Iran has been a success because Antifa can no longer afford to put gas in their minivans.
This is a nuclear bomb to Ontario's democracy. The Ford government wants to obfuscate absolutely everything it does.
On top of the island being a vital, cooling respite for the people of Toronto, apply “A big noisy airport right on top one of our city’s most unique and endearing features will be great for tourism!” to other cities and see how it sounds. Do you need to land in Hyde Park?
Canadian Architect's Elsa Lam continues to shine light on the shameful new Ontario Science Centre project. Already way over budget, costing many times more than any needed work on the existing Moriyama building. www.canadianarchitect.com/contract-awa...
"Mr. Ford said the total cost for the new building is about $1-billion, a figure that includes a 30-year maintenance contract," writes @jeffreybgray.bsky.social.
So Ford's OSAP cuts will close doors on education for low income students, while he spends $1 billion on a Science Centre we already had?
Are you concerned that Pierre Poilievre refuses to get national security clearance?
We are facing unprecedented level of threat from external forces and internal traitor groups.

We have tried nothing, so we have no other choice now but to pay some of our friends mucho dinero to study why our doing nothing had such poor results.

Almost everyone who touts the benefit of private healthcare is hoping to profit from private healthcare.
Just do it, @mark-carney.bsky.social.

Doug Ford has 72 staffers working for him. The largest staff roster of any Ontario Premier ever. His cabinet is also the largest and most expensive in Ontario history.
But this week his Minister of Red Tape Reduction couldn't tell a committee how much all this was costing us.
I have questions.
Here @picardonhealth.bsky.social rightfully takes on Parliament’s attacks on academic research in Canada.
But here’s the deal: There’s no deal to be had. Behind the glad-handing and theatrics, Trump doesn’t even know what he wants. He has found his preferred tool in achieving his grandiose goals — ending the drug crisis, eliminating America’s trade deficits, reviving American manufacturing — and it is tariffs. Don’t like those demands? Don’t worry, he has others: A place to send the people he’s deporting, free capital to invest in American manufacturing, or unrivaled access to rare earth minerals. Exactly what Canada is supposed to do to escape tariffs remains murky as ever. We’re not the only ones. Trump’s conspiratorial trade adviser Peter Navarro once promised to sign “90 deals in 90 days.” The administration’s biggest deal has been with China — and it’s a loser. The deal reduces, but doesn’t drop, American tariffs on China in exchange for more critical minerals from Beijing. This is Trump’s version of a win-win: He gets concessions, but gets to keep the tariffs.
Trump is posting on Truth Social that he's terminating negotiations with Canada over a "fake" ad criticizing tariffs (that was run by Ontario, and which isn't fake.)
It's all theatre. There was never a deal to be gotten. Trump just wants to claim victory. #giftlink www.thestar.com/opinion/cont...
Carney: "We can't control the trade policy of the US. We recognize it has fundamentally changed from the policy in the 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, & it's a situation where US has tariffs against every trading partner... what we we can control is developing new partnerships, including w/econ giants of Asia"
Canada Post is a service. Like other govt or quasi-govt services, it is not supposed to turn a profit. It needs to be efficient, but so do healthcare, the military, food inspection, schools, and other govt services. We subsidize it because people, businesses & remote communities rely on it. #cdnpoli
The coast guard? Money losing.
The army? Losing money hand over fist.
The cops? Money losers.
Firefighters? Filthy, filthy money losers.
And when your kid starts a fire in the kitchen or your husband's boat starts to sink, you're happy your taxes paid for the people coming to their rescue.
I am sure that taking away pre-clearance for Canadians flying to the US will do WONDERS for the 25% drop in tourism. So much genius at work here.

This is wrong. Canada Post is an essential service. It should not be viewed as a business. After all, we do not see national defence as a revenue generator.

Canada Post “lost” 1 billion dollars last year?
How about, “it cost Canadians 1 billion dollars to have a national postal service” which works out to costing about $25 a year per person (population of Canada in 2024 = 40 million). Seems like a pretty reasonable cost to me.
kind of incredible...what masks, distancing and school closures did to influenza activity early in the pandemic. Dashed line is pandemic onset in Ontario. Red=flu B, blue = flu A.
Masking and closures are not sustainable population level strategies, but cleaning indoor air (same result) is.

Make no mistake, everything that’s happening in the United States is being significantly enabled by the right wing oligarch capture of media.
Every other country needs to do everything possible to keep that from happening where they are.
Including protecting the CBC from Poilievre here in Canada.
American thoughts and prayers after mass shootings will last a couple days. Imagine if that spirit of kindness and thoughtfulness looked in the mirror and finally changed their perverse gun culture. Canadians see this as a sickness.
If Canadians don't increase our independence from the US in terms of trade, we're going to get pulled into the increasing tumult there one way or another.
Our business elites won't likely be there for us - so keep buying Canadian, then international, then US. www.theglobeandmail.com/canada/artic...
The first stop for Pierre on his way back to Ottawa should be at CSIS to apply for his security clearance.
He has a month before the House resumes to take care of this. Will he?
1/3 Gee, thanks so much, “Ethical” Alberta tar sands, 🇨🇦Canada’s biggest single source of greenhouse gases, doing more than your bit to promote climate change, helping to bring out of control wildfires and smoke plumes across the country so we call all enjoy gorgeous, smokey sunrises just like this…
It would be a mistake for any country or adversary to underestimate Canadians. Our pride, ability, and determination is much deeper than it might appear on the surface.
