I watched so much cycling and true crime the last few years, I think I singlehandedly compelled the Netflix algorithm to make this documentary.

This is surprising knowing that those who want to repeal are certainly over represented in the group of people who have time to go to City Hall and speak. #yyccc

Nanaimo woman fined $1,000 in senior’s monster truck parking lot death - BC | Globalnews.ca Nanaimo RCMP said the modified design of Jazmin Patenaude’s truck, which was jacked up like a monster truck, contributed to the tragic incident.

Enforcing illegal modifications would be the easiest thing in the world.

Walk around parking lots and issue fix citations.

Second or third strike, impound the vehicle.

Curious how absolutely no level of government has even the slightest interest in this.

War in Iran is making Donald Trump weaker—and angrier Donald Trump's war against Iran threatens to undermine his political superpowers and could reshape his presidency through rising oil prices and weakened leverage.

Donald Trump’s politics depends on the strength that comes from winning. If he seems a loser, expect him to exact retribution. A weaker president could become a more dangerous one

Trapped in their starter homes: Canada has a second-time homebuyer problem Younger people hoping to upsize for a growing family face bigger challenge than last generation

This just shows how expectations have changed over the years. We grew up in our parents "starter homes". Families were raised in 1100 sq ft bungalows without "outgrowing" them.

Apartment vacancy rates in rural Alberta reach new lows amid rising rents, survey finds | CBC News Finding rental housing is often a challenge for people across Canada. But the results from a new Alberta survey suggest the problem has reached a new low, especially in rural communities.

The fact that rents and home prices have been falling in Calgary despite growing population, and rising rents elsewhere in the province shows how effective eliminating exclusionary zoning has been on addressing the housing shortage here. #yyccc

I think it is inevitable there. Neighborhoods evolve. At the same time it is discouraging to hear the recommendation that they limit improvements to the public realm to keep the things crappy and cheap. I think we can aspire to improve neighborhoods AND protect affordability.

Back to the old days of #yyccc spending all it's time reviewing zoning applications? Let them focus on big picture stuff (like critical infrastructure funding).

Today #yyccc was told that a full repeal of blanket rezoning puts over $800 million in federal funding at risk, including $251 million in transit funding. In addition, it will jeopardize #yyc being awarded its share of $20 billion in transit funding. We quite literally can't afford to be NIMBYs.

Calgary homebuyers find affordability by heading east Donna Clarke wanted to live close to a grocery store, a public pool and good transit, not be chained to car ownership

If I were new to Calgary or just starting out, no question I would look at Forest Lawn/Dover etc. Also likely a great investment as people will eventually wake up to the walkability and proximity to downtown.

Exactly - lots of people argue pedestrians need to look both ways before crossing. The reality is, cars won't stop until you actually step out into the crosswalk. You will wait for ever otherwise.

Calgary senior dies after being struck by tractor trailer, police say | CBC News A man in his 70s is dead after being struck by a tractor trailer in the 200 block of Panatella Hill N.W. — the second pedestrian fatality in 24 hours, according to Calgary police.

Hard to see how things will improve while @calgarypolice.bsky.social continues to suggest pedestrians in marked crosswalks share the blame for their own deaths. "I think it's a good reminder that as we're driving and as pedestrians we need to be aware of our surroundings."

When will these be banned?
