Marketed properly, that could be more popular than core maths

Ofqual won’t validate teacher-assessed grades for Middle East students Exam boards Pearson and AQA confirm plan to switch students in the Middle East to international qualifications - but this could pose issues for university places

Given how well Ofqual did at this task back in 2020, its probably for the best www.tes.com/magazine/new...

True, though many worry more about the non-calculator paper (even when they practise those with a calculator handy)

We do - all those other subjects didn’t want AEA in the end, but Maths stuck it out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advance...

I don’t think it would hurt to bring in modular specs again, so everyone knows the topics to be tested on each of the papers; how and when they were taken (early entry, resits, etc) might need more thought, though

There was often quite uneven performance from students across all three papers (eg good at algebra, bad at geometry) and there were criticisms that the approach didn’t show the links between the three areas of study; it e we pulse need careful design to stop that happening again

Abolishing AS Maths as a qualification would help here (and nowadays it’s the only AS subject with any significant entries and those are pretty low).

That said, I’d like to see AS Further Maths remain but it would be a bit of an anomaly

It always used to be there (I no longer have access to check) and the data was for many years summarised on the emporium, though that appears to have been discontinued

Bounds questions can be tricky to keep track of!

I think there’s a point buried in there somewhere but can’t see OCR regrading last summer’s exam at this stage

In 2025, OCR Failed Its Students Taking GCSE Maths Approximately 1,000 students missed a grade boundary because OCR marked their GCSE Maths question wrong. The complaint was taken to Ofqual and upheld in full. OCR has still not remarked the scripts.

Given that entries have to be made by the end of February, you’d think a reasonable estimate could be provided before five weeks into exam season

Seems unlikely - according to Ofqual Analytics, there aren’t any (even if you include the resit students)
