I left academia to teach high school 13 years ago.
*serious* There is a teacher shortage in the U.S. I doubt that I (as a teacher) put up with any more B.S. than other jobs. I work from late August until mid-June, then "recharge" for 2 months.
Starting salary for a brand new teacher with a bachelor's degree is $65k / year (in my county).
